Karl & Barnaby

My birthday is in a couple days so I decided to treat myself to some early birthday art as a personal gift to me haha. So thank you @lovethedanielhd for drawing Karl and his boyfriend Barnaby (My OC). Also yes. This totally IS Dinotopia fan art. Thank you.

Look i don't get why theres people who like david so much better than karl. Unless people are referring to the 13 episode tv series version, in which case I have no commentary since I didnt watch it. But in reference to the 3 part miniseries only,,

They r both jerks, just in different ways. They're also both teenagers with daddy issues who r acting out.

Karl can be a jerk yes. Hes rebellious and defiant and lies too easily, and he doesnt take things seriously. He is taken under the wing of a terrible influence who he seems to view as a father figure. This father figure is specist and teaches karl to use slurs and that is disgusting but thankfully karl eventually realizes how wrong that is and makes the needed changes. This is largely because he found a GOOD role model in Rosemary, a mother figure who taught him to be kind, compassionate, nurturing. Taught him to look at things from a different perspective. Taught him responsibility. He responded well, despite putting up the rebellious teenager act. Redemption arc. He's a teenager and he learned his lesson. He became a sweet, nurturing dinosaur papa who makes peace with his brother. He's got a dino best friend in zippo.

Moving on.

David is whiny and has a chip on his shoulder. He's very negative and passive aggressive. He can be vindictive towards his brother and he's self righteous. He's a spiteful, unhappy teenager. But he is, a teenager. It's a growing period and he did learn some lessons about not giving up from his own good role model/father figure. He learns how to have courage,to have confidence, how to get out of his comfort zone, he makes a connection with a dinosaur and he learns about loyalty. He also learns to loosen up some.

They basically became better young men, and they seemed to find peace within themselves. They grew to like themselves and find out who they are, behind the insecurities and desperation to be liked. And that helped them to be able to have healthier relationships with others.

So I don't understand why people think one is a hero and the other is evil. They're both imperfect young men who can be obnoxious little gremlins but grow up into less obnoxious little gremlins. Now with dino buddies.

Dinotopia (2002) Part 3

I know everybody seemed to hate Karl, but i genuinely think he’s just misunderstood. It’s mentioned that their father isn’t the greatest guy and I’m fairly certain that Karl was neglected, unlike David who lived with someone else. Karl had disciplinary issues and I think those were his cries for help that were never answered and he just never matured the way he was meant to.

i think, based on the Scott Boys’ character traits, they should have switched outfits

David is the shy nerdy one, and Karl’s original outfit portrayed that personality more which is why i was so confused as to why Karl was ever wearing it

Karl is much more of a swashbuckler and hooligan, meaning he should absolutely be wearing that flowy pirate style shirt that David originally had on

Marion is perfect.
