and the thing is, i think karlnapity are three people genuinely good for one another who genuinely love and care for each other — it’s just that they all kind of suck a little bit and are each actively going through the worst shit of their lives, and rather than lean on each other to help bear one another’s hardships, they let it isolate them. quackity is wrapped up in his desire to prove that he’s meeting these expectations he believes are required of him (and even when he’s distant, he’s building las nevadas as this big show of still doing things for them, even if they never really wanted that; they just wanted him around). karl’s time-traveling is for them, for the people he loves, but there’s that same lack of reliance on the others to let them see it, or maybe fear that they wouldn’t like it — he loves them too much to let them stop him. and sapnap is the unquestioning protector, forever and always, without a listening ear to understand who he’s protecting.
