Me when I'm reading the most amazing in-character star wars fic ever but then suddenly Luke randomly leaves jedi saying how bullshit the order is and how being a jedi sucks
The thing about "Heated rivalry" is I will never watch it because of one russian character. I understand that my reasoning is emotional and not logical. A show having a russian character isn't russian propaganda. I don't think it's morally wrong to watch it. I obviously don't know how he is portrayed but I assume his identity isn't paid much attention to, at least not politically. It's fine to watch the show. BUT! I will never initiate a conversation with a fan of this show because in my experience fans of franchises with russian characters mostly fit in three categories:
- Just straight up russophile. The worst person to be around. Glazing everything russian including or dismissing bad stuff (there's a lot)
- Not exactly apolitical, but too relaxed about it. Has the "let's all be friends attitude". Will see a ukrainian showing distaste to something russian or simply not wanting to talk to russians which will result in this person going on "um actually not all russians are bad. You should be kinder. Also it's just the government, russians are also suffering. Think about them. See, this russian doesn't want to murder you! It deserves praise and demands you talking and being nice to them!"
- Apolitical. Will whine about evil annoying ukrainians policing fun and making everything political even when a ukrainian is simply annoyed by the attitude of above-mentioned categories of people.
I'm sure not every fan is like that. It would be foolish to think this. But when my life is already in constant danger and my mental health is declining because of war I don't have any desire to play russian roulette (haha) for the slim chance of talking to someone who wouldn't dismiss my struggles.

A traditional Eurovision jury ritual of summoning Satan to discuss how to vote
I'm crying why does the jury always give the highest points to the most nothingburger performances ever
