Train - Hey Soul Sister (Karmatronic Radio Edit Remix)
In my never-ending quest to find new music, I decided to challenge myself with this song. I wanted to find a song that was widely familiar and see if there was a remix or alternate version that would make me listen in a different light. And guess what I found...
I really don't think this song needs much introduction as it is one of the most catchy tunes in the Western Hemisphere. You don't win a Grammy by being unnoticed, ask Train. This band has been around crafting beautiful melodies alongside clever lyrics for the past 16 or so years. I could had just posted the normal song and been fine with it but I really wanted to dig around and see if what crafty creations Djs can make with a radio pop song. Thus, it is no surprise that this would shine above the rest.
In my listening adventures, I have encountered the struggle between the traditionalists and the modernists. Conservative versus radical. Original versus remix. There are some people out there who believe that nothing can overshadow the original and that remixes destroy great songs. I'm here to defend remixes. Going through my blog, you have most likely encountered plenty of remixes and although I love originals, remixes are incredible. The purpose of the remix is to take a song's sound and completely redefine boundaries for the listeners. The best remixes take a different avenue, take on a new genre, or even take on a different meaning. The music world is too vast to be defined in black or white. There are so many beautiful shades of gray to be had and I think remixes are representative of that.
