to start with. idk how big clans tend to be but does being cousins make it likely they'd be in the same clan?? and if so does that also mean that he would know who they are because they're in line for clan leader? shenanigans ensue perhaps?
also I dont think this lines up with your story but I'm having some hypothetical fun with the idea of "don't tell them I'm here bc I don't want to be found" "don't tell them I'm here because the story is embarrassing"
So from what I can gather, clans canonically vary in size from clan to clan. some are bigger, and the bigger ones are usually seen more favorably than others.
I'm thinking based on that and the fact that T'arata and Karnaka's half brother was a bad blood, he never achieved official clan status. Despite the lack of clan name, the blood relation was enough to sully the A'tul name enough that eventually T'arata had to be like "fine i'll go fucking kill him fuck sake".
So T'ikae could be their cousin by blood, but still of a different clan if you wanted! The two clans could be like, friendly clans that may one day end up being one clan depending on how the blood relations go and what not.
I just love the idea though of it being like
T'ikae: oh my cool cousins the A'tuls
T'arata and Karnaka: ah yes our little cousin [mumble coughs name] who we absolutely definitely remember. Entirely.
