'Portrait of Karoly Marko' as painted in 1847 by Hungarian painter Antal Ligeti (1823-1890). Here is a fine portrait of the painter of this portrait, Antal Ligeti, a recent find for me. The subject of this portrait, Karoly Marko (1791-1860), was the head of dynasty of painters, and one of Hungary's first landscape painters, but in the 1840s Italy, with all it's wealthy patrons providing him with a stream of commissions won his heart, and Hungary could not win it back.
