Susannah Mushatt Jones (1899-2016) at age 116 & 14 days, July 2015, by Karsten Thormaehlen. At the time of her death, Jones was the world’s oldest person. Born in Alabama, her parents were sharecroppers; her grandparents had been born into slavery. She herself helped to establish as scholarship fund for black women to attend college.
