Ok, so we all know thanks to Chucky stalking and tormenting Andy that the Buddi dolls can record both visual and audio with their eyes and ears. This poses a lot of problems, especially since the Buddi dolls are marketed towards children. These Buddi dolls record countless hours of footage of children and their subsequent adults. Buddi dolls are a huge violation of privacy. They can record and project things onto television and phones thanks to being hooked up to different Kaslan products. So imagine, a Buddi doll recording a child taking a bath, adults typing in important sensitive bank information, and other miscellaneous things that people would prefer to keep private. There would be major backlash at what is essentially 24 hour surveillance in the home.

Chucky's Zedmart Massacre was merely the tip of the iceberg with what could go wrong with those dolls.

Film Review | Child’s Play (2019)

If you’re a fan of the original Child’s Play/Chucky movies, I gotta say there’s not much for you here. The remake really leans into how goofy the premise is, but in a really splattery and cartoony way. It’s definitely not gonna be for everyone.

I will say that it’s a lot of fun - there is some legitimately funny dialogue to support the creepy and spooky action. I really appreciated the physical presence of an animatronic doll; if the doll had been CGI this would’ve been so bad. Like unwatchable bad. Because there’s that care put into make Chucky/Buddi/Chode as real as possible it really sells the horror of him getting you.

Mark Hamill brings a different energy than Brad Dourif to Chucky, which works but also isn’t quite as in your face. It’s better in some ways and worse in others - but it’s definitely it’s own new thing that is worth appreciating. Mark Hamill was a great casting choice.

Worth going to the theater, but only with a big group of friends.
