i have to avoid my dash bc i missed critical role last night but i wanted to share an update on my own dnd shenanigans

the problem people, after quite a bit of fuss and stress, have removed themselves from the group. and if last session is anything to go by, it is now a lot more fun and I’m happy to say I do not partially dread upcoming sessions anymore

Kasnan is temporarily cured of plague???? the DM was unclear and i am concerned, but we have a stopgap solution until we solve the demonic root of the problem. Progress! (?)

His cat is an elven cat that is capable of speaking elven and turning invisible at will; the avriel members of the party are teaching Kas how to talk to his cat

( speaking of the Avriel twins, they thought going up against a trex-creature alone was a good idea and the rest of the party had to rescue them from a future as trex chow. the party has not yet let them live this down )

Kas continues to attempt to make good choices and guide the two rogue children he’s semi-adopted into making better choices. The latter is more difficult, as they successfully distracted him with courtesans.

13. what do they dislike about themself? why? 

Kas dislikes a lot about himself, honestly, but most of all how quickly he goes back to thinking like a street urchin. He’s trying to be a good paladin, but it’s hard to put aside all the habits that have kept him alive his whole life. It’s the main reason he takes an oath of redemption, because he needs to believe that there is always a chance to do better.

40. do they enjoy poetry? 

He does. It feels fancy and indulgent to him, and the emotion behind it can be very strong and beautiful.

55. whose hand do they reach out for?

His mentor’s, when she’s close by. If not, he’ll just pet his cat Nibbs. He’s very tactile and more than a little touch-starved.

65. what is holding them back? 

His own fear, that what’s ahead will be too much to face or bear, or that he won’t be enough and disappoint everyone.

i’m still thinking about this so let me share what i considered a high point of my last dnd session

we were fighting a green dragon that was attacking a city, and it used an illusion to get three of us into the air ( our two winged elves and Kasnan riding on one of the elves' mounts ). the real dragon shows up on the ground and then it used its breath weapon.

Kas failed the CON save because Kas always fails the CON save, took 60+ damage, and went into system shock. Fortunately the rest of the party on the ground has the dragon’s attention because at 11 hp he’s an easy target.

On his next turn he asked his mount to take him down to the healer and mid-dive failed the DEX save to hold on and started falling to his death.

Meanwhile the party is laying into the dragon fairly well. I told everyone don't worry about catching Kas, and the only one who really could was busy blinding the dragon.

So Kas realizes he's falling, still kind of out of it bc pain, and he sees the dragon and decides fuck it and with his last action breathes lightning

and apparently the dragon only had 8 or less hp left

because that was the killing blow

and then Kas hit the ground

my dragonborn pali has been working to stop a magical plague that’s ravaging places and tied to a demonic rite

in last night session he found that not only does the npc who is his best first real friend has it

so does he

and possibly so does his pali mentor

had part one of my session zero for my dragonborn paladin kasnan and i was not expecting to power through about six hours holy shit

but wow that was fun

and i love kasnan and he needs hugs
