this isn't what i wanted.
"I’m sorry.” His voice is low as he stands by the girl’s bed. He didn’t even know her when he picked her up and took off into a run, but he did know that he couldn’t leave her unattended. How was he supposed to know she didn’t want to go to Daybreak? Hell, when he picked her up he didn’t even know she was a mutant. If it hadn’t been for her blood closing up his wounds he wouldn’t have even batted an eye, but because of it he panicked. He had to help the girl out. It was obvious that he couldn’t just leave her there. But was this any better? He didn’t really know.
“I’m so sorry... I know this ain’t the best place but it was all I could do in the time I had.” He shakes his head- messy white hair moving in front of his eyes just a little. “They won’t hurt you. They shouldn’t... If they do, you talk to me. I’ll make sure nothin’ happens. As soon as you’re all better, you’re free to go too...” His voice shakes just a little with his last words. He wants to offer her some comfort, but can he?
Can he even blame her? Places like Daybreak have never been anything but disgusting to him. He can’t even bring himself to truly trust this place. He lives here because he felt like he had to all those years ago. Now he’s just here because he’s attached to some of the people. For all he knows, Daybreak is a cover for a facility like Mutagen. They could be hurting mutants just like him. They could be experimenting on humans and mutants alike- trying to unlock some sort of of twisted “potential”. That’s what they call it, isn’t it? They’re supposed to be special because their freaks.
He doesn’t want her to get hurt. Daybreak shouldn’t try to take her blood- shouldn’t do anything to her without her permission that isn’t just to help her. But what’s their definition of help? Is researching her power help? Is confining her and not allowing her to leave Daybreak help? He doesn’t know. He also doesn’t want to think too much about it. The last thing he needs is for her to see that he’s nervous. If she knows, it’ll probably only worry her more. So he sits still and puts on a smile. It’s small, but it’s enough.
“If nothing else, you’re safe with me, ok?”
