Part 2 of @sunnysidesevenup 's Moonlit Song Competition event, Kat's Groovy card! Part 1 here.
Appearances Pt. 2
Right after taking the potion
Kat: eeee! Oh my gosh!
Thera: hey, you took the cloak off, are you feeling more confident as a- and he's already swimming away.
Kat: Arlo, am I what I think I am?
Arlo: you're a merman. That's what we said the potion would do.
Kat: no I mean the type of fish, like how you're a pirhana.
Arlo: I don't know? There's billions of gray fish species how the hell should I know which one you look like.
Kat: I think I'm a Chinook salmon!
Arlo: probably. I dont care.
Lilia: ah, I know those fish, they're pretty popular as food in many places.
Vil: I fail to see what's so exciting about being common gray sushi.
Kat: dudes, I know Chinook salmon like I know myself. My first job was at a fish hatchery where we worked with them.
Thera: that must've been fun.
Lilia: don't salmon die after they have their eggs?
Kat: yup. Autumn was a very violent time of year. Our process was to knock 'em out, cut 'em open, and sort them for processing into food and other stuff.
Everyone: ...
Vil: and why did you say you're excited to become this fish?
Kat: the Chinook salmon are like friends to me.
Arlo: friends you killed every year?
Kat: friends with a short lifespan. Just because I know I'll see something die, doesn't mean I can't enjoy watching it grow up. You get it, don't you Lilia?
Lilia: uh... I'd hardly compare my loved ones to salmon, Kat. But I suppose I see the point you're trying to make.
Cater: well this whole conversation got dark real fast.
Vil: yes, I'd rather not ponder the idea of Lilia watching us all die Kat.
Kat: you're the ones who made it about death. I was just saying I love Chinook salmon.
Arlo: how exciting. Anyways, has everyone successfully transformed?
Cater: Cay-Cay has!
Thera: psst, hey Kat.
Kat: oh, thanks for getting the cloak.
Thera: do you.... want to swap back?
Kat: swap back?
Thera: you seemed comfortable in your scales is all so I thought you might wanna wear your crown for a bit instead of hiding in a cloak made in my size.
Kat: I... I could. Do you... want to?
Thera: yeah, here.
Kat: I uh, wow...
Arlo: Kat! Thera! Stop staring at yourselves, we're moving.
Thera: coming! Here Kat, I'll help you swim to keep up.
Kat: have you done this before?
Thera: swam with a tail? For legal reasons I have to say no. But I actually wanted to ask a bit more about Chinook salmon.
Kat: of course, whatcha got?
Thera: so are the black spots a trait of those salmon?
Kat: yeah, they can be useful for telling them apart, kinda like freckles.
Thera: cause I was just thinking they don't look all that different from your scars.
Kat: ah... I guess so.
Thera: they even snake across your shoulders. So I was wondering what makes you so much more comfortable like this.
Kat: oh... I suppose. But it's normal for Chinook salmon, it's nothing weird. They're not scars anymore, there markings. Markings every salmon has.
Thera: so it rounds back to being different.
Kat: no. It rounds back to people asking and making assumptions about what happened to me versus just looking normal.
Thera: there's the story.
Kat: ...you baited me into telling you.
Thera: hey, I'm just here to listen.
Kat: and you always manage to get me to talk. Well, is it time for another Thera P. session?
For @sunnysidesevenup's event, I've been working on some cards, because it's like he made this event specifically for me. Assuming i succeed, there will be two cards with both a normal and groovy version, as well as a Vignette to go with them. Here's the first, Kat SR!
Vignettes will be posted in pieces, so first half of Kat's Vignette +version without cloak under cut:
Appearances Pt.1
Changing into new outfits
Kat: um, is there anything with more... sleeves?
Arlo: you get what you get. Stop dawdling and come out already.
Kat: um...
Arlo: what's wrong with him?!
Thera: I'll check on him. I know the upper city so you can go ahead and we'll catch up.
Arlo: *sigh* fine. Whatever. If you get lost, don't you dare blame it on me.
Thera: I'd never.
Arlo: come on then. Let's go guys.
Thera: Hey Kat?
Kat: Thera?
Thera: everyone else is gone, it's just me now. I want to help with your outfit, can you show me the problem?
Kat: um... okay...
Kat: its uh, yeah.
Thera: alright, and since you look absolutely adorable in that I'm gonna need you to explain what the problem is to me.
Kat: seriously? Do you need some of the sight potion I took? I'm covered in scars.
Thera: a few marks on your shoulders doesnt make you ugly Kat.
Kat: and my back.
Thera: and that doesn't change anything.
Kat: Thera, you know I love your positivity but the point is I can't go outside dressed like this.
Thera: alright. I believe you're cute with your scars and all, but if you want to hide them, you've a right to cover yourself. Luckily, if you hadn't noticed, I've been given the perfect solution!
Kat: your cloak?
Thera: yup. As I was putting it on I thought it seemed your style anyways. But I have two conditions.
Kat: alright.
Thera: the first is that you fork over that darling tiara you're wearing.*
Kat: oh, I couldn't wear it with the hood anyways. Sure. Here.
Thera: the the second is I wanna hear you say that you're beautiful.
Kat: what?
Thera: Kat, you are leaking so much self consciousness and insecurity you could pollute the ocean. But when I look at you I see an adorable person with a big heart. So I want to hear you agree with me. Just once, and I'll give you my cloak.
Kat: oh, um...
Kat: I.... am adorable?
Thera: like you mean it.
Kat: I'm adorable.
Thera: there you go Kitty Kat.
*in the story Kat's original outfit had a tiara, it's not in this drawing, but you'll see it soon.
Kat is my Yuusona, the first of what's essentially to be a series of OC tsums. (Story under cut)
Grim shook Kat awake as a familiar portal opened up in the sky above their dorm. Having fallen asleep in the garden, Kat was perfectly placed to lay on their back and watch several small bundles falling from the sky.
The tsums were back.
Kat yawned and squinted at the shapes, silhouetted in the bright light. Every time this happened, it was different tsums, small creatures that resembled specific students on campus, and Kat was trying to figure out who these new tsums would look like. They had just decided they were seeing a diasomnia hat on a tsum falling towards the school roof, when something struck them hard in the chest.
Kat coughed, and sat up, looking around frantically. The tsum hadn't gotten far, it was laying on the ground shivering, its face hard to see beneath a gray hood.
"Is this one you?" Grim asked "does my henchman finally have a tsum in his likeness?"
Kay gently picked up the small creature so they could better see its face. Big square glasses made it hard to see its eyes, but it's outfit was unmistakable. This small creature took after Kat.
Kat set it down gently "Hello little guy" they said softly to it.
Grim looked at the creature, who stared quietly and motionless back at Kat. "Its shaking worse than you, you think it's scared?"
Kat offered a hand, palm up, to the tsum "if these tsums are as like us as I've seen the others to be. It's both scared and cold, but neither are why it's trembling. Just like me.
The tsum bent its squishy body in a small nod, and crawled onto Kat's open palm.
Kat picked it up once more and cradled it in their arms. It immediately snuggled in.
Grim watched with what was absolutely not jealousy, he was not a house cat and didn't want Kat to hold him too, not at all. But he said "Crowley's probably tryin' to gather them all in his office again."
Kat sighed, squeezing the surprisingly squishy creature slightly "I suppose I should go"
They stood up, and looked around. There were no more tsums falling from the sky, and while they didn't care to talk to the headmage, they did want to see what other tsums had shown up. So they waved goodbye to Grim as headed for the school.
