Right, after an interaction this morning that has literally left me shaking with rage I need to voice my thoughts.
I'm probably going to lose followers for this but honestly I don't care.
Saying you are innocent because you didn't read the tags/labels/warnings, or you just 'skimmed' a disgusting fic does not excuse you.
As fic writers we always, ALWAYS say to read the tags/warnings. We don't do this for our own fucking pleasure. We do this to protect people who may be triggered by a particular topic that is included in that fic. We do this to protect MINORS who have no place reading what some of us write.
Say it with me.
AS GROWN ADULTS YOU SHOULD NOT BE INTERACTING WITH MINORS ON THE INTERNET. ESPECIALLY WHEN SEXUAL CONTENT IS INVOLVED. THAT SHIT IS ILLEGAL.
And please, do not use the excuse of 'I just skimmed it and commented'. So, basically what you're saying, to me as a writer who you interact with regularly, that you skimmed my fics and commented??? I don't think people understand how rude that is. And reblogging stuff blindly is just as bad. I literally have screenshots of the people involved. Do not try and talk your way out of it.
As someone who has a very young child this whole situation is sickening. I want nothing to do with ANYONE who has been proven to have interacted, no matter their excuse. And God help you if you do not have children and try to tell me you understand how I feel. You do not and will not until you have children. That shit will get you an instant block.
I don't care if you didn't know what you were reading. All that proves to me is that you literally ignore the one thing we as writers ask our readers to do. This is ignorant, and dangerous.
I'm not one for 'dark' content but I've been in the fic world for a long ass time now and I know the difference between dark and plain fucked up.
I have screenshots but I will not be posting them publicly. Blogs have already done this, so if you really want to know, please have a look for yourselves.
Let this be a fucking lesson to you all - do not blindly follow someone because they follow you. I always check out content of people who follow me, and if I genuinely like their stuff, I follow back. If I don't, I don't, simple as.
If anyone disagrees with me, that's fine, I'm voicing my opinions and won't be getting into any fights about this. Unfollow me if you must, say I'm a bitch but I couldn't care less if I tried.
