I’ve not slept well in weeks. Considering the recent changes in my life I believe that I have the full right of tossing and turning and getting tangled in the sheets. Between being thrown into the supernatural world and being thrown against a brick wall of a man that is haunting my thoughts every day, I’m ready for a long vacation. No weird experiments, no haunted carnivals, just a bunch of books and hot chocolate.
Wouldn’t that be nice.
Said brick wall suddenly bursts through my door, all cargo pants and a too tight shirt. He has his earpiece in and looks slightly ruffled. The strength of his entrance almost took out my bedroom door and I wince as I see it dangle in an awkward angle. Not that Adam is especially sorry for destroying my property. Seems to be a favourite of his.
"Come with me, hurry." He grabs my sheets and starts to pull.
“Adam?”
“Get up.”
To be honest, I think that I have dreamed about this. Though he was a little more naked and a little more flushed in whatever my head had come up with during a specifically sleepless night. Right now, all I do is blink at him. “What…”
“I’ll explain later. The rest are waiting outside.”
“I’m not… let me…” I’m not dressed to leave my bed. I want to hide beneath the covers and feel a blush rushing to my cheeks. Soon my skin will match my hair in terms of redness.
What a pleasing thought.
“No time for that. We got some very bad intel and I …” He stumbles over his words and doesn’t look at me, but his words are filled with whatever this is between the two of us. “*We* need you to be safe.”
Adam is doing the sad puppy eyes, though he’d never admit it. Even in this dim light the green is rather mesmerizing. Something in my stomach lurches and I’m between wanting to throw up and throwing myself against him.
I curse beneath my breath as I finally untangle myself from my sheets. I see his eyes going wide as he watches my sleeping ensemble. To my utter horror, I’m not dressed sexily or pretty or even professional. The days are getting cold, which is why I’m dressed in a pyjama that Tina got me for my last birthday. It’s hot pink and adorned with a myriad of cute cats. Not to mention extremely fluffy and warm. The pants are slightly too long, which is why I need two tries to get into my sensible slippers.
“I…” Adam shakes his head and says nothing and I might have killed all attraction that he not so secretly harbored for me. I follow him and just know that my mom wouldn’t have been caught dead in such a thing, but Rebecca is Rebecca…
Felix is standing outside, watching the scenery, and I notice their overly big car down the street. He’s all business and ready to fight whatever might be hunting me, but then he almost chokes on a chuckle as he sees me approach.
“Really?” Felix starts to laugh and. “Show me this.”
He reaches for my pjs and touches the fabric. “At least it’s soft.”
“We got no time for this.” Adam interrupts us and pushes on towards their car.
I still hear Felix suppressing his laughter and pray for the ground to open up and swallow me.

Characters: Detective Kate Kingston, the Agency boys

part one
The ground does not swallow me, which is a crime against me and my pink pyjama.
Instead I have to deal with Mason’s sneering and barely hidden chuckle and Nate, who is obviously trying to make me feel welcome by offering a blanket and a pat on the head. Though, even he can’t hide how utterly horrendous my outfit is and takes a sharp intake of breath to not go into full laughter mode.
I give him points for trying.
“I don’t want to talk about it.” With my hair in a bun that looks more like a breeding ground for birds, I totally hit the jackpot for being woken up in the middle of the night by four ridiculously handsome guys. Not that I should care about. I’m a professional with a degree in science and I’m damn good at my job! I also pay my bills and live on my own and I’m allowed to wear whatever I deem worthy of covering my body during the night.
Why does Adam’s shocked expression still linger in my mind then? I fight against the memory of us barely holding hands and watching fireworks. My head propped against his impossibly hard shoulder and the tension between our bodies.
Ah fuck.
Now I’m blushing to top it all. Better not try to remember what I’m dreaming about most nights.
I settle into their stupid SUV, stupid blanket wrapped around my shoulders and wedged between men that are too big for these stupid seats.
"This better be good,” I murmur and I want to kiss Felix (in a platonic manner) as he hands me a coffee. He settles next to Adam, who is driving and his golden eyes are caught somewhere between pity and absolute joy. I’m sure that he’ll try to sneak a picture of me sooner or later. There have been some empty frames around the Agency lately.
Adam watches me through the rearview mirror. “We have it on good authority that some trackers are closing in on our location. You’re not safe in your flat.”
I puff up my cheeks, arms crossed in front of my chest. “Great.”
I’m acutely aware about the buttons stretching too tightly around my chest and stomach and pulling the blanket a little further.
We drive in blissful silence for a few minutes until Mason leans closer and dares to put a finger on the pink fabric. “So, are we going to talk about this?”
“Absolutely not.”
He lifts the corners of his mouth and doesn’t let go of my pyjama and instead comes a little closer to inspect one of the chubby kittens. “It’s mesmerizing.”
Nate, guardian angel of overworked and sleepy Detectives, interrupts his prodding. “Mason. Kat had a stressful night. Let her be.”
“Thanks.”
I feel Adam’s green eyes on me again and in the dim lights of the street lights they look less hard. “It doesn’t matter what the Detective is wearing. Her safety is more important.”
“Yeah sure, as if you’re not trying to see her without…” Adam’s stares at Felix and for a moment I fear that his head might explode. Instead the younger vampire gets quiet, but seems satisfied with having proven a point that I’m totally not overthinking. What have I done to deserve this? Mom has some more explaining to do once I see her again.
Between the horror of my outfit and me blushing, because of Adam, I need a few moments to understand that there are people out to kill me. Again. My precious blood seems to lure in the worst kind of predators and it isn’t an option to just ignore the potency of it. I do feel a little better as we’re driving up to the hidden Agency and the warehouse where everything started half a year ago.
We get out of the car and I keep the blanket around my shoulders. Nate, Mason and Felix get in before I do and I’m left alone with Adam. They are probably doing this on purpose to escape the sight of me.
Or to grant me and Adam some alone time. Not that anything will happen, because we’re both stubborn and I don’t want to overstep.
He’s towering over me, arms held behind his back. His eyes are somewhere above my shoulder as if he doesn’t dare to look at me openly. “Your room should offer adequate accommodation.”
“I’m sure it will be fine.” I sigh and ignore the knots forming in my stomach and the chilly night air that creeps through the pink fabric.
Adam’s gaze finally meets mine. “I admit some of the cats are kind of cute.”
He smiles, humor makes his face softer, and all I can think about is how much I want to kiss him.
All about lab and tech and still trying to get better at combat. More of a research than a people person, because books are nicer in general. Generally a soft, warm person that is pretty smart and likes dressing sharp. Works on her confidence and gets drunk with Tina every other weekend.
Very strained relationship with her mother and her ex Bobby. Also very strained and angst filled relationship with Adam, which fills her with longing and pain.
Besties with Felix, who she adores a lot and will protect at all costs.
1, 12, 20 and 27 from the Lovey Dovey Prompts for the character they fit best, please!
<3 thank you
1) Is your OC in love? If so, with whom, and for how long?
Veldarin: Yes, oh yes. Fell in love with young Arcelm, who came into his life and gave it a new meaning and direction. Now he has so much to fight for, but so much to lose and he’s finally started to come to terms with his past, yearning for a future with Arcelm.
12) What do you love most about your OC?
Secesa: She’s the oc that suddenly and quickly became such a fave of mine. She’s fierce, sarcastic, prone to some darkness, loyal, passionate, showing her love with dumb pranks, because showing real emotions still hurts. She escaped an abusive household to join the Jedis and now flirts with grim Zabraks.
20) How does your OC feel about public displays of affection?
Iathos: Lbr here, if Fiora and Iathos are finally going for a relationship, he’ll shower Fiora in gifts and kisses, will hold her hand, carry her over every puddle of mud and sing songs for her
27) How does your OC typically spend their Valentine’s Day?
Going with Kat Kingston from the Wayhaven Chronicles, because they have a Valentine’s day! Normally she’d got out with Tina, have some drinks, some nice food, buy some flowers and sweets for each other and hopefully no self-pity! Lately there has been some self-pity thanks to Adam not getting his shit together.
Warnings/Summary: Tina and Kat have a girl’s night
-----------
“I can’t do this anymore.” Kat stood up, raised her arms and inhaled deeply.
Tina, comfy between a lot of cushions, grabbed a new bottle of wine. “Work your job? Clean your flat? Spend time with me?”
“Pining after someone that neither seems to be interested in me nor likes spending actual time with me.”
There. Finally. She said it. It didn’t go anywhere, it hurt her more than she’d ever admit, and for what? Beautiful green eyes and strong arms, which fit so perfectly around her? A vampire, who didn’t thirst after her blood? Why, just why, did she feel such a connection to him. Adam used every opportunity to leave situations where both of them were alone and he always put an invisible wall between them. Every time Kat thought that they finally made a step forward, they actually made two steps back.
You’re everything, my ass.
Probably just her shit taste in partners, remembering her relationship with Bobby and how that prick had used her.
“Aww, shush. You don’t see how he looks at you. All puppy and lovey dovey.” Tina munched on a cupcake and Kat tried not to flinch at the crumbs flying right at her couch. She’d cleaned her little haven for hours, just to finally entertain another girl’s night with her closest friend.
“Tina, please.”
“I’m not making this up! Check the security tapes. It has to be on them.” Tina filled their glasses and talked rather animatedly “No, no, really! Every time you turn around, he goes full Darcy.”
“Ugh.” Kat’s stomach hurt. A deep pull beneath her heart. She hated feeling like this, knowing that it always began like this, only to completely overpower her. So many years spent on therapy and talking about her childhood and Bobby and she fell right back into something complicated.
Tina patted the couch. “Come here. You need some love.”
“Yes, I do.” Kat moved to sit at Tina’s side and propped her head against her friend’s shoulder.
Soft hands started to caress her hair, gently massaged her head and neck. Not to mention that she still had a few sips left. Wine helped. “See, better now.”
“A bit. Still need more of this.” She raised her glass. “And less Agent Du Mortain. Less talk of guys in general. Tonight is about us and that Jane Austen filmography.”
Tina swiftly refilled her glass. “I also got you covered.”
Kat almost emptied it in one, long gulp. She’d started to get tipsy a while ago. Maybe the cause for her emotional vulnerability or the fact that she had to spend yet another day in close proximity with a man that she would love to kiss and who always fled.
“You’re the best. Why have I never dated you?”
“Ah, would ruin our magnificent friendship.”
“Hmpf, yeah.”
Tina raised her glass. “Here is to Katrena Kingston, letting go of self-doubt and enjoying herself for once.”
“Cheers to that.”
Somehow Kat doubted that she’d suddenly develop a healthy bit of confidence or that she’d let go of having feelings for Adam du Mortain.

Warnings/Summary: more fluff, a cat has arrived in the Warehouse
--------------------------
Kat had imagined some serious Agency business when driving to the warehouse, mission details, a talk of strategies, instead she found herself facing Unit Bravo and their newest member.
“You named a cat Security Breach?”
Adam took a defensive stance, arms crossed in front of his broad chest, face an invitation to argue with him. “Well, she is one.”
“It’s certainly a mouthful.” Kat shook her head and watched Felix kneel down in front of her. In comparison to Adam he looked cheerful and smitten with the fur ball, his eyes lit up and his was smile wide.
“I’m trying to teach her some tricks.”
Felix pulled a package of treats out of his pockets. “Come one, Security Breach, we have trained for this.”
The cat in question just focussed on the treats with her huge, yellow eyes, and continued to sit in front of Felix. Her tail twitched a bit.
Mason chuckled. “That was impressive.”
Kat hadn’t heard him enter, but waved into his general direction, which earned her a small nod. Nathaniel was nowhere to be seen and probably nose deep into some research or enjoying the warm autumn sun.
“You’re a traitor.” Felix offered her some treats and she happily munched them down. “But a very cute one.”
“She is really cute.” Kat sat down too, carefully adjusting her pencil skirt, ignoring the feel of Adam’s eyes on her. Blood rushed to her neck and face and somehow she managed to concentrate on Security Breach. No, he’d made it clear with his actions that nothing was ever going to happen between the two of them and Kat tried to accept it. Though, it’d ended in a lot of nights with Tina, beer and ice-cream and a whole stack of romance novels on her desk.
“I always dreamt of having a cat, but it never happened.” Carefully she stretched out her arm and let her sniff her hand. Her childhood would’ve been happier with a little critter at her side, a friend during all those lonely days.
Felix put an arm around her shoulder. “As a member of Unit Bravo Security Breach is your cat too.”
“I guess, I’ll have to buy a lot of fancy cat toys then.” And some beds and food. What did she even eat here? Did she have water? Good hiding places?
Adam left his favourite place by the window. “Please don’t.”
Security Breach thought it an invitation to rub herself against Adam’s legs and started to purr. She even arched her back.
“Aw, look at her. She’s smitten with you.” Kat looked at both of them and another wave of unwelcome emotions swelled in her chest.
Mason, still enjoying the scenery, added in a matter of fact tone. “Yeah, wouldn’t be the first smitten one.”
Adam looked ready to fight him but rubbed his neck and tried very hard to neither look at Security Breach nor at Kat.
She coughed to break the awkward silence. “What did my mother say about her?”
“A long, long and suffering sigh, but we took it as an: yeah, keep her. It’s your responsibility now.” Felix laughed, as if remembering the exact expression on Agent Kingston’s face.
Kat leaned over to pet her. “Welcome to the team, Security Breach.”
Warnings/Summary: Kat asks for back up on a mission
-------------
The hairs on her neck rose.
Something was wrong.
So totally wrong.
Fear crushed over her and numbed her legs. She tried to move and found herself fighting her own body. A trap? She tasted blood in her mouth from biting her tongue too hard.
Kat tipped her ear. “Back up! Now!”
Undergrowth rustled. Branches broke and something growled.
She pressed herself against a tree, trying to remember Adam’s lessons about self defense and surviving a supernatural attack. Not being a natural fighter, came as a disadvantage. At least, his training helped her with staying calm. Kat put a hand in front of her mouth to regulate her breathing. She didn’t know what kind of beast followed her or what it longed for. Nathaniel and she had spent many nights researching and reading about various kinds of mythical beings. It didn’t help much.
A shadowy figure passed her. Saliva ran down its fangs, dripped to the ground. Its massive paws broke everything between them. A scent of sulfur tainted the air. Kat thought about all the nightmares she’d face as a kid and all the darkness waiting beneath her bed. This thing seemed born out of it.
More growling and the swish of a tail. Kat closed her eyes and grabbed her weapon. She lacked the clearance for better equipment and hoped that it would be enough. It looked huge, with shoulders brushing against trees and she wondered where it’d come from. They’ve gotten reports from townsfolk about missing sheep and butchered pets. Most of them ripped to shreds and half eaten. It turned her off meat for the foreseeable future.
Kat took another breath.
Voices and light suddenly broke her stupor. Kat heard Mason shout something and Felix answered. Suddenly the whole area was bathed in artificial light. She heard her mother ordering the rest of the agents around, nets were thrown, magic used. A strange sensation raised goosebumps on her arms. They’d brought the heavy hitters. With the light and the Agency at work, the nightmare had no chance to escape. It hissed and screamed and its sharp teeth snapped.
Strong arms wrapped around her body. A familiar smell engulfed her, cheap body wash and detergent. “I got you, shht.”
Kat swallowed her scream.
A hand rubbed her back and Kat pressed her face into Adam’s chest. “I’m sorry. I froze.”
“It’s okay.”
Kat didn’t feel okay. Almost as if no warmth could ever reach her again. She looked up to meet Adam’s gaze. His green eyes bright and filled with concern. He leaned down, she stretched her back and closed her eyes.
“Am I disturbing something?” Felix didn’t try to hide his smile, but their closeness vanished with his amused expression.
“No.” They answered in unison and a familiar emotion settled in her stomach. Adam put more distance between the two of them and held himself as if nothing had happened.
