Well, it's kind of established that John can do things regular necromancers can't, right? And the regular necromancers have been studying necromancy scientifically, whereas John just sort of wings it. Was there really no Palamedes-adjacent nerd in all 10,000 years who thought, "hmm, what can we do with these scraps of wood"?
