I turn 35 tomorrow

I don't have any particular plans except to enjoy my last day of PTO and hopefully get some writing done, plus I bought myself a little cake

But for a moment all I could think about just now is it's my third birthday without my mother

I swear the worst thing about how grief pulls sneak attacks is it always feels so stupid, too. Like, I know this, how the fuck is it a sneak attack. Also my mood was fine literally a minute ago, what the hell.

Spoilers for starfleet academy below and my thoughts about it

so I'm enjoying it so far, it's silly and different and very young adult-ish in my mind which is okay and makes sense since they're all like 17-21 or something. I like the characters and I'm curious to see where the show goes.

But. And this is a huge but for me.

Why tf are the Betazoids only empaths??????? I'm so confused it feels like no one did any research into this beforehand and the Doctor is right there!!!!!!!!!!! Like what was anyone's thought process?? Did they only think about Deanna and was like "oh yes, she's an empath so all Betazeds must be empaths". Did no one on the show fact check them??? I'd even be okay if they said the psionic shield got rid of that power or something happened over the course of hundreds of years but they didn't say anything????? It's genuinely frustrating and probably the most frustrated I've been at a new star trek show because it feels like they didn't even care even tho there are so many call backs to previous shows. I really just want a reason or someone to come forward and say they were dumb and didn't do any research. Any regular fan next gen would know this. Even ds9!!!!!!! Like. Ugh. It's just so frustrating.

I'm happy to see those stupid droids from lower decks tho, that was hilarious. I also love the hippy Klingon and all the stupid jokes.

Anyway. Rant over. Idk why no one else is talking about this tho

I know I described the redactedverse as an already established universe but also ☝️ there's a lot that's left up to interpretation and left open ended in terms of character. Everybody's appearances (mostly. I do remember Vincent's and Sam's eye colors), everybody's relatives (in reference to the listeners. We never meet any siblings. Never any confirmed trauma givers among the parents.) and my point is that's why I'm starting a wip inspired by this... Thing™️

Now is this wip going to see the light of day? Probably fucking not! The idea of that depresses me! Am I having fun conceptualizing it all while relistening to the audios? Absofuckinglutely!

I'm doing this by vibes and vibes alone and I'll keep being cute and creative out of spite and bitterness. Fuck all of them
