I found a job!
Hi! So I don’t post much on here anymore, but just a wee update for anyone who wants to know.
More than a year after graduating from my master’s degree (and a year and a half of job searching) I have finally found a job!
Honestly this last year was kinda hell. I was being discriminated against because I needed part-time work because of my chronic pain. It was really shitty.
But I’ve finally got a job, starting at the end of this month, in my area of study (human rights law). It’s a low-level clerical starting position, but it’s really secure employment, all my accessibility needs met, prospects for advancement, and I get to be doing something kinda important? I get to help people? This is honestly all I wanted and I’m so excited and a bit nervous. I can’t wait to start!
So I guess, if you’re in a similar position, esp in the current self-isolating, job-losing shit storm, that sometimes you have to hold out for longer than you thought you could, and keep fighting even for things that shouldn’t need fighting for, and it all feels really shitty. It really does. But I hope it works out for everyone else too. I hope it works out for me.
And I’m totally going to bring my “ableism is trash” mug into the office. It’s gonna feel great.
