One thing that should be said in England’s defence is that he doesn’t really understand women, and he understands love even less. He has a lot of words, but he has never had occasion to use them, which of course leads to several very regrettable incidents, most of which seem to end with something being thrown at his face. On more than one occasion, it connects, which is incredibly painful for him, and somewhat gratifying to his assailant. Apparently, punching him in his smug face is a perfectly acceptable way to spend one’s time when one doesn’t give the slightest of fucks about dignity and propriety.
