Everytime, when i've see you'll post something about D&D, want to ask you and then forgot. so)) On what edition you play most often? And which race/class is you favorite?
Right now the only games I’m playing are 4th Edition D&D games, the game that we’ve been playing for 5 years now and a side-game. Honestly, it’s my favorite edition of D&D. I’ve played a little 2e, (plus a lot of the older RPGs like Baldur’s Gate which use 2e), a lot of 3/3.5 and aside from this game, a decent amount of 4e.
Mostly I like 4e because A) it speeds up combat a lot with having the power cards in front of you. The days of 3e where every spell had to be looked up in the PHB and a lot more math with spell resistances and stuff had to get done was so frustrating. Waiting on your mage to roll would be like a fifteen minute ordeal sometimes. And then your fighter and rogue would be done in ten seconds. Also, class balance is so much better. I played a Bard in 3e, which we upgraded just my character to 3.5 so she’d be slightly useful after level 5, and honestly she still was pretty not-useful most of the time. But I loved her character, so the DM adjusted around the fact that my character didn’t contribute much to most battles, and I created my own PRC we agreed on to actually supplement where the party was lacking.
Not to mention that after level 10 or so, no non-spellcaster is nearly as useful as a character as any spellcaster and their damage can’t compare. (Except for maybe a bard :v )
In this 4th edition game I play a rogue, and I never feel not useful. My damage isn’t the best in the party in combat, but she wasn’t designed to be the most high-output damage rogue possible. She was created to be a skill monkey, and versatile, and there’s some things I did with her character for purely roleplay reasons where I could have picked some other more “useful” feat or skill. But 4e let me create the version of this character I’ve had kicking around in my head for well over ten years that I really wanted.
For the record, she’s a Rogue, multiclass Avenger, Paragon class Daggermaster, Epic class Chosen (of Avandra). She’s a very religious rogue, completely devoted to Avandra and an Agent of the church.
I’m also currently playing in another game a friend runs on occasion (one of the friends who is in the main game runs a side game which only the people in main game play in) where I’m playing a pixie bard, and that is a lot of fun. The physics of what you can and can’t do as a 11” tall pixie make for interesting gaming.
I don’t know if I have a favorite class, I tend to gravitate towards rogues first, or bards if it’s an option, healers next and mages after that. Generally I don’t play a lot of fighters or tanks. I kinda prefer support roles but I’ve played a little of everything and there’s not a lot of classes I don’t find fun. :D
Oh, I don’t have a favorite race, either, but I tend to avoid elves because… idk, I find them just kinda cliche and rarely enjoy playing them. Half-elves are okay though. :)
