so, i powered through the rest of sherlock holmes: the devil’s daughter and

-WHY WOULD YOU END IT THERE!?

*spoilers under the thingy*

-is it just me, or did it feel like that Alice thing escalated quickly? I mean, I knew she was trouble from the off, but then I started thinking she was a red herring after I opened her mail and searched her flat, and I still think there’s kind of a gap between her motivation and whatever motivated her to drag Kate through the “Congratulations, you’re a Moriarty!” rabbit hole.

-Gee, thanks, Jim. Don’t you remember you were the one who asked me to take care of Kate in the first place while you were dying? And this is the thanks I get? See if I ever do anything for you again, math boy.

-What the hell, Kate. What was going on in your head? Was it “Oh, but I can trust Alice because she’s always paid so much attention to me,” or “Shit, I’m a Moriarty, I have to self-destruct before the programming takes over,” or... what? If it had been me, I would have been well into the “fuck this shit, I’m out” stage by the time I was standing there in the middle of A BURNING GODDAMN RIVERBOAT WITH HARDLY ANY DECK LEFT, but... I guess maybe she defaults to freeze instead of fight or flight?

I just feel like there needs to have been an epilogue to have finished this stuff off. Also that the game as a whole isn’t quite as strong as Crimes and Punishments- the controls for a lot of the action sequences weren’t great, the solutions to some of the cases made me go “huh?”, and don’t even talk to me about that series of puzzles in the temple, SERIOUSLY HOLMES NONE OF THEM WERE EVEN RELEVANT BUT THE LAST ONE- but I was really impressed with some of the features. Psycho Alice really, really took note of all my choices, especially (a) the one or two cases where I got the wrong man and (b) my punishment choices for the cases. I was pretty harsh this time around, unlike in C & P, so she pointed to those and was all “See? He likes getting people killed!,” and then she called out my grudgingly lenient decision in the last case with “He never caught the murderer!” (because I let him flee to Stockholm so he could get his daughter into an experimental treatment program, because after the fiasco with Kate’s birthday I felt rather guilty about daughtery-things in general). Haven’t seen reactivity like that since Alpha Protocol.

Also, like in Alpha Protocol, I got to sail away from the explosion with my in-game best friend (and family), but damn, I really wanted more of a settlement. Sherlock has some ‘splainin to do, and I wanted to see him do it.
