Sooo I just finished playing The Testament of Sherlock Holmes! I already played Crimes and Punishments before, so I guess I did that in the wrong order, but oh well. I don’t think I missed anything because of it. Correct me if I’m wrong!
Overall, the game was great fun!! It was a bit slow in the beginning, the controls were a bit awkward to get used to and sometimes the animations were a bit weird/slow, but I guess the game is from 2012 after all, so I can easily forgive it for that!
The storyline, once it really got going, was AMAZING. I loved how they turned Watson’s trust in Holmes upside down, had Holmes acting all suspicious and still aloof and seemingly confident even while he was clearly worried.
I also loved that they let you play as Holmes as well as Watson, and even as Toby! That was soo fun, altough it was also slightly hilarious to think about how useless Holmes was while Toby was solving all the puzzles for him!
Additionally, I have to say, while the voice-acting wasn’t the best I’ve ever heard, I absolutely enjoyed both Holmes’s and Watson’s voices, and Holmes’s especially has to be one of the most pleasant voices I’ve ever had the pleasure of listening to. I’ll have to go look up which voiceactor I have to thank for that.
One thing that stood out to me in comparison to Crimes and Punishments, was how much they showed Holmes’s soft side towards the end of the game. I mean, the hug? And that shot right afterwards when he calls Watson John? Ahh, yes, why don’t you just punch me in the face and tear out my heart, yes, good, GREAT. MY HEART.
Okay this is just incoherent rambling, but I had to get it out.
If any of you played these games let me know how you liked them!!
