Thoughts At The Airport
Yesterday my family and I went to the airport to pick up my sister. Over her spring break, she traveled to Greece and Italy. [I honestly don’t think I could have been more jealous.] While waiting at the international terminal for her to arrive for the big reunion, I silently observed my surroundings. Out of the corner of my eye (and ear), I catch a father returning home to a wife and two young boys who can’t stop hugging him and saying “daddy”, in the sweetest tone you’ll ever hear. You have the flight attendants arriving from Amsterdam - tall, blonde, beautiful with amazing hairstyles. The terminal is their runway. A man in front of me is with a tour guide group, handing out packets to the newly arrived. A high school boy has a massive sign waiting for his girlfriend, who will hopefully say yes to prom. Not long after reading this giant painted question, a little boy tramples over one end of it (don’t worry, the sign made it). While watching him make a mad dash for the “Do Not Enter” area of the terminal, I couldn’t help but laugh but also worry that he was about to set off every single airport alarm. I look over to his mother, who is laughing with tears in her eyes. His destination? His grandmothers arms. The entire family unites and you can’t help but smile. More people flood through, being a witness to all sorts of greetings. From running hugs to kisses from cheek to cheek, they all had the same feelings behind them. As my sister’s arrival grew near, I saw my own mom tearing up (this is not a common thing). And finally when she came up and we all got our hugs in, it hit me. This has to be one of the happiest places on earth. The international terminal is a place of sweet reunions. This is where soldiers return home, distant relatives come to visit, and families are reunited. Happiness has the same feelings behind it and can be understood by everyone, no matter what language is being spoken.
