After doing this project to figure out Tumblr's 50 favorite musicals, are there any conclusions you can make about the top favorite musicals? Like do you see any similarities that they share?
This is an excellent question! Unfortunately, I don't have a good answer to it. Looking at the Top 50, there are no criteria that apply to every single musical.
We've got musicals from the 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s and 2010s. There miiight be sort of a recency bias, but it's not as obvious as it was when looking at TheatreFlashbacks's list on Twitter.
MOST musicals have had a large scale production, meaning they were performed on Broadway, in the West End, or Vienna (which is the epicentre of German-language musicals). Exceptions: Ghost Quartet (#45) & The Hunchback of Notre Dame (#22).
Fandom definitely plays a role, but not exclusively: I don't think there's a fandom for Into the Woods (#13), Jesus Christ Superstar (#14), or #10 (merely serving as examples here).
Jukebox musicals are the minority, it's just Moulin Rouge (#31) among the Top 50. Most musicals have two acts (one act: Ghost Quartet (#45), #10, #9; three acts: The Lord of the Rings (#38)), but two acts are more or less the norm in general.
Every single musical among the Top 10 is or has been on Broadway AND has been/is/is going to be in the West End.
Once I post the full list, you're welcome to draw your own conclusions and share them! I hope you're more successful than I was 😅
I really like your pride icon
graphic design is my passion
I have a question about your minor god Percebeth drawing. What are they the gods of?
omg i actually have no clue!!! I feel like every single thing you could be a god of in greek mythology is already done - so let's just pretend they come down and take over Mr D's role when he goes back up to Olympus after his punishment :^)
What are some of your thoughts on the Shang-Chi movie now that you've watched it?
honestly, i loved it!! i was pretty much entertained the whole time (with a couple lines here and there that i rolled my eyes at) but it felt so refreshing after so much mcu content that i’ve thoroughly hated. the fight scenes were phenomenal (idk if fight scenes have ever made me emotional before, but there i was, wanting to cry more than once lkdajfklds) and the soundtrack is awesome!! i think the cast and crew really put a lot of work and heart into this and it showed.
there were some things that felt like they could’ve been explained better or presented better to really give audiences a good grasp of some of the history (just kinda based on the questions my friends were asking after the movie). and i think i might have liked a bit more time with wenwu and xialing, since there was clearly a lot of baggage there, and a bit more time for wenwu to really register what he’d actually released into ta lo before dying. but overall, it was really well-done and i can’t wait to see it again!! i already know this is one of my top mcu films.
If you had to pick, who would you say is your favorite spn character outside of Dean, Sam and Cas?
Oh, Gabriel hands down. Love that funky little dude
How did you get into comics?
ooh okay sorry for this being a little late tumblr only notified me today :)
What got me first into superheros as a whole was justice league unlimited, and j'onn was like my favorite from there, and I watched all the DC animated shows but I didn't really read comics for the most part. I wanted to but just never did. Around late 2018-early 2019 when I joined tumblr, I'd started following dc blogs specifically for like the characters I knew from the animated shows, and upon that I'd heard about the new Martian Manhunter solo coming out, and like, that made me really want to find out where I could read it/get it. Because he was my favorite, and I had to read that comic for him because of that. And then while I was waiting for it come out I'd heard about the Green Lantern run that had ended in 2018 with Simon Baz and Jessica Cruz (jessica specifically drew me in because I was really going through a lot with anxiety at that time and hearing about Jessica was like.. I had to read it) and I'd always found gls interesting, so I decided to start from the beginning. And I loved it. And then I began reading the Manhunter solo when that came out.
And then from there I followed more blogs, found out abt reading lists and started reading comics. So like that's kinda what happened! Essentially got into comics because of J'onn!
