Actually, I don't invalidate anyone for genuine want or concern for the game. I disregard and, yeah, even bash people who think they're cute because they've been to one FNM or a sealed event. No, not everyone will be good at the game, and really, that's not my concern - Instead, it's every attention spamming new player who gets into Magic to play off a 'nerd chic' on the internet. That doesn't make me elitist, that makes me honest. But what do I know? c;
No no, the part where I believed you to be elitist was this statement:
Do you think its cool to make a big deal out of playing Magic even if you're terrible? Personally, I sat with an 1800+ DCI rating during my stint, and went to Nationals in Kansas City few years back. I have a youtube where I talked about tips and tricks to the game, and I worked at a card shop in CT before I moved.
Why do you need to pull rank? Are you suddenly more knowledgeable and thus the end-all-be-all on MtG in which it relates to attention? No, though I do respect your time and experience with the game. Just a little humility is what I am looking for.
I respect your honesty and frankness. I actually enjoy it. I share your opinion about "nerd chic". I don't appreciate people who play MtG, or any game for that matter, to solely get attention. But in that sentence above in which you pulled out your Rating of 1800+ to prove a point severely cripples your standing as a responsible member of the community. It's basically saying that only people with good rating can talk about Magic.
I have a terrible rating, but does that make me special? No. Does that make me a terrible Magic player? Maybe. Does that invalidate me as a person with an opinion on a subject I love? Absolutely not.
Respectfully yours, MtGFan.
