To make sure the characters felt realistic in The Dark Crystal (1982), concept designer Brian Froud wanted to use glass eyes that could blink and move like those of a human. However, the search for these eyes was difficult, not even Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum could source the appropriate parts. Eventually, the production crew had found an English company to hand make the eyes for the inhabitants of Thra, like Kira and Jen.
