The Amityville Horror -1979
Based on actual events.
That line just made it seem creepier. Whenever you see something is based on actual events especially a horror movie, that's when you loose all sense of fiction in the movie. The true story is a young man kills his entire family, 6 people, in a matter of minutes one night and he claims voices and supernatural beings told him to do it. How creepy.
The rest of the movie is also based on actual events of the Lutz family where they move into the house for 28 days and then move out because they begin to experience supernatural encounters and George the patriarch begins to a little out of his right mind. When a priest attempted to bless the house he was met with a very unpeaceful encounter and left immediataely insisting he was never gonna return again. After the strange things happening the entire family left and never returned not even to get the personal possensions.
For a 70's film the creepy stuff was pretty good. James Brolin did a good job as the scary father figure. They didn't give as much detail in the whole history of the house and why the supernatural things were happening. They did go into detail about the killings but like a few minutes before the movie ended. I would have loved to see more of a build up. Also more then just a few creepy things here and there.
My rating 3 out of 5.
