I wouldn’t expect the Mormons to bend at all, just as I wouldn’t expect most religions (cults?) to accept, affirm and nurture loving relationships involving lgbtq people. Sure, they’ll fight to make sure we’re all born, but I sometimes suspect it’s just so they can condemn us all to hell, just for kicks.
This reminds me of a little social media episode one of my gay friends just had with his ‘extended’ family--who we’ve known for many years. He grew up and was best friends with one of their two gay sons (who died of AIDS back in the 90′s). The family is very Catholic, and conservative. Recently another son, after a breakup with his wife, posted something anti-gay on his FB, which set off a feud between my friend, the divorcing son, his other gay brother, and their sister. It was a sad, humbling experience for my friend, and it didn’t exactly sit well with me, either. They can all be thankful I’m not on FB, because I suspect it wouldn’t have ended well.
I told him this is the way it will always be with the religious and we will forever be seen as second class humans (and it can be argued some don’t even see us as human). They say they accept us but not our “lifestyle”, but they’re full of shit. Our lives are the same as theirs, other than who we love--we try to be moral and decent, but we make mistakes, just as straight people do. However, they have the bible to throw at us which apparently gives moral superiority. It’s convenient they can pick and choose what to follow from the bible, too. And hey, if they screw up too bad they’re forgiven. Not so with the lgbtq’s. To make matters worse, we have many religious people supporting the worst human imaginable as President, just so they can further their hatred. And oh, look at this: Report shows massive increase in anti-LGBTQ violence since Trump took office.
