For your amusement: 1) the snowpack in my back yard is about 24″ and 18″ on my front sidewalk that I had completely shoveled last night around 7pm, and 2) my buried car compared to my tenant’s car

It did. It was completely gone.
And then it came back...again and again. I shoveled yesterday. I shoveled today. Our total for the season stands at 186.6″, just 12.8″ shy of the record annual snowfall for a medium to large city. Buffalo holds the record--199.4″--for the winter of 76/77. Syracuse is second with 192.1″ set in 92/93. Erie is currently third.
It’s been an interesting winter. I went to lunch midweek at the Sheraton, which sits on the edge of the bay, and there’s not a bit of ice on the water. Five weeks ago Lake Erie was nearly frozen over.

I crawled out of bed before dawn and noticed the outdoor security lights on--the plow guy was here but surprisingly not making a sound... Odd, until I focused on the amount of snow we received--nearly 3 feet. It tends to get very quiet with that blanket of snow, which is a very cool thing.
The city of Erie has declared a snow emergency, and another 1-2 feet of snow is predicted. Impressive.
It’s absolutely stunning outside and if I can get my act together I may try to take a photo hike. I’m not sure how feasible that will be with the temperature in the low teens and the task of getting unburied.

That’s a crazy amount of snow, stay safe & warm! I’ve seen the volunteers on TV digging people out, one lady said she hasn’t been able to get out of her house since Christmas! So I hope you don’t get snowed in!
I’m not sure what to say at this point. I’m mostly frustrated about getting away from the house--there were 2 days where I was snowed in, awaiting the plow guy, but I really didn’t need to go anywhere. I'm certainly able to walk--although with the temps in the low teens and having to navigate the streets because of the condition of the sidewalks that’s a difficult proposition. I have shoveled and helped other people get their cars unstuck pretty much every single day, and I’m not sure if I’m sore because of the exercise or because I’m having an RA flareup. I’ve been lucky, I think, as opposed to my family. I’m off work all week, I can have food delivered, and I can walk a few blocks and get subs, pizza, or a meal. One nephew who lives about 4 blocks away doesn’t have the resources, and my sister in Lake City lives by herself. She hasn’t worked much during the week and that’s causing her much frustration, as you could imagine. But she froze a ton of food from Christmas and she isn’t lacking food. Actually, she’s still hoarding her damn cookies, too. Yummm!
