Do you think the only people who really are going to be nostalgic for the 2000's were 2000's kids? I've seen many people who were not 2000's kids saying how there's not much to be nostalgic over from the 2000's, which is very sad, and I'll talk with you about that later, but I wonder if that could be said about other decades as well, that the only people who would be nostalgic for the 90's were 90's kids or 90's teens, and the people nostalgic for the 80's were 80's kids.
Probably a mixture of both. I was a preteen and teen during that decade -- 10 in 2000, 19 in 2009.I’m not sure I could call myself a “2000s kid.” I’m a legit “’90s kid,” in that I actually have episodic memories from the 1990s. (Mostly mid to late, but still.) Being a kid during a decade gives you a different perspective than being a teen, though. For example, my boyfriend is 37, and I’m 27. One decade apart. I remember kid stuff from the mid to late ‘90s, like Nicktoons, Beanie Babies, and Furbies. He remembers different things than I do, like the mid-’90s ska revival. He remembers when Colombine happened, and was old enough to really understand the significance of that event. I remember Monica Lewinsky and a little here and there of OJ, but I was so young that I wasn’t fully aware of the ramifications of those big media events. There’s tons of stuff to be nostalgic for from the 2000s. One is Myspace, along with Livejournal and AIM. Social media was different. The Internet was a little more “Wild West” back then -- less so than in the ‘90s, but much more so than today. The whole idea of “social media” was a brand new development. Blogging was relatively new, as well. It was interesting living through the rise of blogs, social media, and other things that you could call “Web 2.0.”
