Katiria introduces her first full-length album: "Del Cielo a la Tierra V1. Heaven."
Katiria is a gifted artist and songwriter from Puerto Rico. Recently, she announced the release of her first full-length album, "Del Cielo a la Tierra V1. Heaven." This piece of music is a fantastic introduction to her work, not only showcasing her versatility but also highlighting her ability to make music that is conceptual and intriguing from a lyrical standpoint.
The name of the album itself reflects the ambitious scope of the project, which seems to encompass different volumes, this being the first one. The title of the record translates roughly to “From Heaven to Earth,” and right off the bat, the introduction offers a very mesmerizing and dreamy quality: with sounds from people chanting quickly overtaken by a lush synthesizer sound, later followed by the voice of the artist.
The second song, “florecerè,” takes the listener someplace else. The track unfolds with a playful guitar melody, slightly reminiscent of songs, such as “I’m Yours “ by singer Jason Mraz, but also very different in overall vibe. Much like the aforementioned track, this tune has a very positive and vibrant attitude, with personal lyrics and an emotional approach that enhances the feeling of intimacy that this record brings to the table; it is very obvious that Katiria is deeply connected to the song, and she is singing from the heart.
“momento oportuno,” the third song, begins with a gentle guitar pattern adorned by the unique sound of the coqui, a Puerto Rican frog, in the background, creating a spontaneous vibe. The background sound gives the music a more authentic and immersive quality, almost making you feel like you’re right there as the performance is taking place. The song evolves unexpectedly, featuring an intricate set of percussion instruments, cinematic melodies, and great vocal layers to spice things up.
The next song, “salvavidas,” is a beautiful exploration of Latin, percussion, and Bolero-inspired rhythms. At the same time, Katiria retains her signature dreamy melodic style, which works well in a more percussive arrangement.
The song “paradise“ has a very interesting shuffle rhythm, which you do not often see in this particular style of music! This is an indication of Katiria's incredible versatility and willingness to explore different ideas to make her music stand out. The intricate layer of drums and percussion works really well with the other melodic instruments and the vocals, creating a set of fascinating layers that add a unique quality to the mix.
In another incredible showcase of versatility, Katiria explored yet another approach to the song “Xtasi.” This catchy tune is a pop dance anthem, a reminiscence of global superstars like Dua Lipa, but with a trade signature sound that makes Katiria so special. This is one of the most broadly appealing songs on this entire release, and it offers a steady but memorable groove with a gripping melody that won’t get out of your head so quickly.
“noches en SJ” takes us back to some of the most Latin-inspired influences on this album. The rhythm is really engaging and infectious. It’s impossible not to get moving as the track captures some unique Dancehall influences while retaining a very fresh Latin pop appeal that makes for a very modern and direct sound with a colorful twist.
The title track itself is another stunning moment on this album. More so than any other song on this release, it showcases the artist's vulnerability. Katiria is pouring her heart out in the lyrics, and the vocal performance is really one of her best. The emotional content of this track is heartwarming and nostalgic, creating a very intense listening experience.
The next song, "¿donde estas?" could be described as a pop ballad combining nostalgic and romantic lyrics with a soothing beat and some intricate melodies that work so well with Katiria’s vocals. The next track follows along the same lines, but it still sounds quite distinctive, especially because of the vocal articulation, which enables Katiria to showcase her phrasing and ability to use her vocals not only to bring more melody to the music but also to add more rhythmic articulation through her amazing control.
The track “TV“ is yet another example of her mastery when it comes to making music that is accessible yet experimental and thoughtful. Katiria knows how to create very easy-listening songs that are still full of original ideas and one-of-a-kind solutions to make the material feel more dynamic and distinctive, as opposed to just mimicking the style of somebody else.
“don’t go“ is another exciting song with a simple but effective percussion pattern. It features a shaker and some big drums, supporting Katiria‘s beautiful vocal performance, which is extremely emotional and filled with heart and passion.
“dimension“ is one of the tracks that stands out as some of the best on the album. The impact of the drums is fantastic, bringing a very modern and punchy tone to the overall track. The kick and snare cat, through the soothing layers of synth pads and ambient tones, provides a mesmerizing And surrealistic atmosphere with a contemporary R&B and neo-soul flavor. At the same time, the song's rhythm and Katiria's lyrical delivery add more variety and upbeat quality to a song that is otherwise really ambiance-rich.
To conclude, this album serves as a fantastic first full-length for Katiria, who spared no effort on this one! She did everything she could to showcase her Diverse skill set as a musician because his record features many different styles. There are a lot of Latin rhythms, pop electronic music ballads, and pretty much everything in between. Not many artists can channel such diverse styles so simply, let alone within the confines of a single studio album. This is the kind of record that will beg you to listen to it from start to finish, much like a true musical journey with so many different twists and turns, making it all the more enjoyable as an experience rather than just a collection of songs. That’s sad; the tracks also stand out individually because they’re so well-made and incredibly well-produced. More importantly, they are performed by an artist with so much artistic integrity in the cohesive vision despite her ability to make things feel refreshingly different every time.
