The chatter of the charity gala could hardly be heard from the empty office the two had retreated to. These events just weren’t their thing. They were too stuffy, too proper, laced with too many fake smiles and pretending to give a fuck about what some random rich person had to say. Hiding out was a necessity if they wanted to stay sane.
Katya was situated on Bucky’s lap and her knees pressed against his hips, digging a little deeper each time she shifted. The cracked leather office chair creaked beneath their weight and the soft sounds of their labored breathing interrupted their kisses. His right hand slowly wandered over the soft skin of her back as he traced the familiar line of her spine while the metal one stayed firm on her hip. The dress she wore was silk with a low back line and it had been driving him crazy all night. Too bad they were at this stupid event, otherwise it would’ve found its home on the floor by now.
She abruptly pulled away from the kiss, her hands carefully sliding from his neck to his jaw. “Buck?” She asked in that honeyed tone that he loved oh so much. She had a tendency to do this, pull back and ask him questions or tell him about her day as if they weren’t in the middle of something very important.
“Hmm?” he asked, the blues of his irises shadowed by his blown pupils. Their eyes met and he felt the corners of his lips tug up into a small, barely there smile. He couldn’t help it around her, especially when she was all done up like tonight. Her hair was tamed, for once (not that he minded either way), and she wore this cherry red lipstick that he was so sure was smeared all over his face by now. She had always been beautiful to him, but she was even more so tonight.
She huffed, moving her hand back to his neck before brushing through the ends of his hair. It had grown since they’d first met all those months ago in Delacroix. She never really was able to keep her hands still, or to herself, when it came to him. “You really gotta tell Valentina to stop having these kinds of things on our anniversaries!” She pouted. “I mean, we could be out having a nice dinner or we could be at home with Alpine, but instead we’re here. Do the children really need donations that badly?” There was a teasing lilt to her voice, but he knew her words held some truth.
“Well there’s free food here and Alpine likes getting herself into trouble at home. Plus, this is only our first anniversary, there’s still time to improve before the next one.” He said.
“Bucky!” she laughed and swatted at his chest. “I’m serious.”
He laughed a little and his eyes crinkled at the corners, a picture that always made her smile. “Yeah, alright, I’ll let her know. No more charity events on anniversaries.” He said gently before carefully cupping her face. She murmured a soft thank you against his lips when he leaned in to kiss her again.
It was easy for them to get lost in each other, the gala and Valentina forgotten in an instant. So much so that the footsteps coming towards them from out in the hall fell on deaf ears.
“Hey, where have you two been, Valentina’s been driving me cra- oh, god, go home and do that!”
