Fat bear week is over and bears are beginning to waddle up to their dens for the winter, but my fat bear week pick, Electra, will warm my heart all through the cold.

The omnivorous coastal brown bear has approximately 42 teeth: large predatory teeth for shredding and molars for grinding. In Katmai National Park and Preserve, Alaska, a bear’s diet during the summer consists primarily of salmon with the addition of sedge grasses and berries. “We interrupt your afternoon broadcast to bring you an update with the stand off occurring at Katmai National Park, Alaska. The National Park Service is reporting that the grizzly bears have taken control of the pontoon bridge that spans Brook River connecting the park lodge with the rest of the park this afternoon. “We always try to negotiate with the bears when it comes to traffic over the bridge’” said one park official, “but this year the bears have decided to completely take over the bridge and will not let anyone cross it!” The bears disagreed with that when we spoke with them, “we’ve always had a good relationship with NPS - but the traffic jams across the bridge have grown really bad over the years,” said he bear who identified himself as bear 472. “We’ve decided that we need to take control of the bridge ourselves and one of the ways we believe will control the crowds of photographers and on lookers is by charging toll - one salmon each way. We also have an Easy Pass with the state of Alaska too - we are sure it will work very well once you sign up” Negotiations between representatives of the the National Park Service and the grizzly bears continue at this moment.
