Guilt
A/N: If Full House hadn’t been taken off Netflix I’d still be watching it every day. Jesse is the one n’ and only. <3
Title: Guilt
Summary: Jesse finds out you lied to him and Danny.
Words: 1060
Jesse shivered against the cold breeze as it whipped around him, burying his neck deeper into his leather jacket. He grit his teeth against the wind. his guitar in its case slung over his shoulder, and his hands stuffed in his pocket.
He’d had a small gig at a bar close to home. Not his usual thing – the Rippers were growing more popular, and not just within the country – but it was sometimes nice to go back to the places where he and the band had first started off, just to feel that sense of familiarity that he sometimes missed.
The bar was only a ten-minute walk from home so he’d opted to walk, but, really, he was beginning to wish he’d called a cab. Winter was coming in close and fast, and the air was icy cold. He hated the cold.
Sighing and muttering something inaudible under his breath, he burrowed his hands deeper into his pockets and quickened his pace. He passed a number of people, as to be expected on a Friday evening, but didn’t pay attention to anyone. His focus was purely on returning home to bed.
Nevertheless, one particular person, or, rather, one particular voice, caught his attention quite rapidly, and in a second his eyebrows had knitted together, and his feet were slowing down. He turned his head, squinting to see in the darkness, and blinked in surprise when he saw who he was pretty certain was his eldest niece.
What made his eyebrows shoot up, however, was the fact that the person he was pretty certain was his eldest niece was standing dangerously close to a person he was also pretty certain was a boy. A boy he did not know. And he pulled his hands from his pockets, rolled his shoulders, and crossed his arms over his chest as he strode forwards.
He watched for a moment, well aware he was quite invisible in the darkness of the street, analysing the situation, but decided enough was enough when the boy leaned forward, moonlight shining on a lust in his eyes he remembered having all too well.
“Alright!” he called out, waving his arms. “Break it up, now!” Both you and the boy snapped your heads around to face him, eyes wide at the interruption. His arms dropped to his sides and your face grew paler as the recognition dawned on you.
“Are you- are you a cop, Sir?” the boy asked, and you moved to intervene, grasping his hand.
“No, Henry, it’s-” You sighed, shaking your head- “It’s my Uncle. Jesse.”
Jesse rose one eyebrow, staring sternly at the boy. He didn’t give him time to respond to you before speaking again, turning to you with a firmness in his eyes he rarely used on you. “Thought you told your dad you were going out with some friends?” he asked you.
You tilted your head. “This is Henry. He’s a friend.”
He narrowed his eyes. “Girl friends.”
“I’m not gay, Jesse.”
“And I’m not in the mood. You know damn well what I mean!” He shook his head, not quite believing that you were acting like this. If anything, you were the most well behaved of your sisters. And you knew that. Which was proved exactly when you avoided his gaze with a guilt in your eyes.
Jesse sighed and turned to the boy, jerking his head slightly to the side. “Hey, bud, why don’t you go home?”
“But-”
“Go home.” He dipped his head, and the boy glanced at you for a second before ducking down slightly and brushing past the both of you.
Jesse watched him go for a moment before moving back to you.
“Hey. What’s this, huh? Said you’d be sleeping over at… Cassidy’s, or something.”
You briefly rolled your eyes. “Kailey.”
“Kailey. Whatever. Point is, you lied to your dad. Why?”
You’d been quiet at first, keeping to yourself, not even protesting as he sent the boy – Henry – away… however, now, you let your shoulders sag and you threw your hands in the air. “Because he wouldn’t let me out otherwise! I mean, come on! Do you seriously think he’d want me out at night with a boy?”
“Bug, do you seriously think I want you out at night with a boy?”
You shut your eyes and fell back against the wall you’d been standing in front of, rubbing at your eyes. Jesse heaved a sigh and stood beside you, crossing his own arms over his chest and staring ahead. “Come on,” he said quietly. “What’s with you? Hey?” He bumped his hip into yours, looking at you expectantly.
You shook your head slightly. “I don’t know,” you said truthfully. “I just want Dad to trust me.”
“If you want him to trust you, first order of business is telling him the truth. I’m sure he would’ve been able to work out a compromise with you if you’d just told him you were meeting the guy.”
You gave your uncle a look. “You really think so?”
He scrunched his face up in contemplation before shrugging. “Maybe not,” he said, the corners of his lips faintly pulling upwards at your breath of laughter. “What’s he like, anyway?”
“Henry?” you asked.
“Yeah.”
“He’s… nice.” Jesse rose an eyebrow. “He moved from Texas a month ago and asked if I wanted to meet him tonight. I didn’t want to tell Dad. I’ve never… met up with a guy like this… you know?”
Jesse nodded slowly. “I know.”
“So I told him I was meeting Kailey.”
“Yeah, I got that part.”
You sighed, leaning your head on his shoulder. “Think he’ll be mad?”
He rested his own head on top of yours. “Not if I speak to him first?”
“You’d do that?”
“Anything for you, Bug. As long as you promise never to do something like this again. You’ve got the all-clear on my account to meet the guy again, as long as we’ve met properly before, but you’ve gotta tell your dad first.”
“I promise,” you said with a smile, right before the cold breeze became all the more noticeable again and you shivered, leading Jesse to move and rub your back in an attempt to warm you.
“Come on,” he said, wrapping his arm around your shoulders and steering you down the pathway towards home, “let’s get outta here.”
