Life in The City can be so draining and severe at times. I crave softness and warmth to help me recharge at the end of each day. My chill space is such a contrast to everything else in my life, it’s almost like stepping into a dream. A pastel, fluffy, twinkle-lit dream.
When I first came to live with Thea, she gave me a room to call my own. I didn’t know who I wanted to be yet so she helped me make a space that felt warm and safe, which was extremely important to me for some reason. I think it helps me balance my energy or something. Anyway, Thea made guesses at who she thought I might become and filled my room with things we both liked at the time. I’ve added a few personal items since but it’s mostly the same as it was when I first came to live with her.
Getting my energy right can be kind of a bitch at times. If I don’t get rid of enough during the day, I’ll be up all night, but if I drain myself too much I’ll sleep forever and wake up HUNGRY. I down a terrifying amount of food whenever that happens.
Same goes for healing. Sometimes I get too cocky and make mistakes in a fight or if I’m not focused enough and fuck up my landings. Then I’ll find myself in a world of hurt. I have to spend more time chilin’ before I’m right again, but it always works out.
Thea asked me recently if I want to make changes to my room to reflect who I’ve become, but I’m kind of attached. And I don’t give a shit about gender conformity, so no. My chill space stays the way it is.
I can’t imagine recharging anywhere else and no other place seems to work the same way.
Well…
Except that time I accidentally fell asleep during STEM study hour.
Man, I felt so good when I woke up and Kat was sitting right there with that crooked smile. I guess I should have been more embarrassed but it was a rough time and the first real sleep I’d had in weeks. I didn’t even care about that and Kat…
well…
Kat was there.
So, it turned out to be a pretty good thing.
STEM group meets 3 times a week. 3 times a week Katuri looks at me. 3 times a week I struggle to make words happen. 3 times a week Katuri shares his beautiful mind with me. 3 times a week he smiles about something. 3 times a week I quietly die inside.
