As you’re most likely aware, Tink and Periwinkle weren’t the ONLY (or first for that matter) set of siblings. There was also Sparkle, Helios, and Glory in “Fira and the Full Moon.” Would you mind doing an analysis on that? Like in the book verse, do they call triplets as fairies born on the same day or from the same laugh or what? Do they tend to be of the same talent or can they be different as evidenced in Secret of the Wings?
Also: what are your thoughts on fairy lifespans? I know they can be killed by stuff (like disbelief or hawks) but assuming nothing happens...can fairies live forever? Or can they die of old age like humans? Speaking of that, I personally headcanon that when a human says the forbidden words, the fairy that came from their first laugh is the one that starts fading. Also what do you think is the effect on a fairy’s body who starts dying from disbelief? Do they just fade into nothingness? How long does it take? I know it has to do with their “light going out” or glow fading. What about when Tink died in Return to Neverland?
Finally: a bit of a personal headcanon: I know that canonically, dust keepers don’t sneeze. However, I think that’s only partially true. They DEFINITELY don’t sneeze on the job (due to the precious nature of dust) or when they’re healthy. But when they’re sick, THAT’s when they do it. Not only does it give them an “oh no...” moment, but it lets them know EXACTLY what’s happening...plus it still stays MOSTLY true to canon. Speaking of sickness: my headcanons for Fluttering Flight and Fairy Flu are as follows: The former causes twitching wings/wing spasms, so that when the affected fairy tries to fly, they can’t control their flight pattern. And the latter is pretty much human flu, but it also deprives the fairy of his or her talent and ability to fly. Thoughts?
Okay, let me take these one at a time! Starting with fairy siblings.
Siblings are those fairies who arrive from the same laugh. It doesn’t matter if they were born on the same day if they’re from different laughs--then they just have the same arrival day, like two humans born on the same day who are otherwise unrelated.
The fairies at the arrival of the light talent triplets seemed surprised both that there were 3 in the set of siblings, and also that they all had the same talent. Fira considered it lucky, in fact, because the light talents were in need of some extra help at the time. (I have a headcanon about this that I’ll get into in a bit.) So this implies that fairies who come from the same laugh do not necessarily always have the same talent, or it would have been expected as soon as Helios and Glory arrived once Sparkle had announced her talent that they would have fallen into the same one.
There are a pair of music talent twins in the books as well, who are named Ariette and Lyra. I’m not sure of any other siblings within the series besides Tink and Peri, but to me the light triplets’ arrival was enough to demonstrate within the books universe that they don’t automatically have to have the same talent.
Also, within the movies, they play it out as though Tink and Peri are the only fairy sisters who have arrived in hundreds of years, because even Dewey the keeper of all fairy knowledge had only read about the sparkling wings rather than ever seeing it for himself. In the books the impression is that twins/triplets are uncommon (as they are in human life tbh) but not unheard of.
Back to my headcanon about the arrival coming at the perfect time. The same thing happened with Prilla--her talent was brand-new when she arrived in Never Land, and she came at just the right time to go on the quest which ended up saving the whole island, because she was able to blink to the mainland and get children to clap for their belief in fairies and Never Land.
In the universe of the books, the island itself has some level of consciousness, and personality. It’s alive in a way--it has whims of its own. And at the beginning of the book, it was shown that the island could prevent entry to whoever it deemed unfitting. The laugh that became Prilla was trying to make her way into Fairy Haven, and the island had the ability to block her out, but decided to let her in.
So, what I mean to say is that Never Land CHOOSES which fairies can make it there, and when. And it specifically allows those that might come in handy real soon, like right about now, for whatever is going on or about to go on. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I’ll answer the rest in separate posts and tag you so this doesn’t get too long!
