Not Quite Yourself

Hey @kay18115, Happy Birthday!  Lots of love from your SPN Family!

“I,” Sam started, squinting at you a bit, “I still don’t quite understand.”

You would have laughed at his cute face if you hadn’t been slightly frustrated.  You had been trying to explain to Sam the reasons why people celebrate their birthday, but since he was currently soulless and didn’t care about anything... It was proving challenging.

“Sam, look,” you said, sitting next to him.  “It doesn’t really matter why, it just matters that we have a tradition, and even with you being...”  You tried to think of a nice way to put it.  “...not quite yourself lately, I still want to keep up the tradition.”

Sam swallowed, mulling over your words.  Finally he nodded.  “That seems fine, Y/N.  Let’s go, then.”

You pulled him to the kitchen, instructing him what snacks to prepare while you gathered everything else.  Fifteen minutes later, the two of you were in Sam’s room with Netflix pulled up, surrounded by snacks.

“This is quite comfortable,” Sam commented, munching on some popcorn.  “And I suppose I enjoy the snacks.”

You smiled.  Even if Sam wasn’t fully himself right now, just being with him on your birthday was going to make you happy.
