This elegant gown, masterfully crafted by the renowned designer Travis Banton, made its dazzling debut on Kay Francis, who portrayed Donna Lucia d’Alvadorez in the 1941 adaptation of Brandon Thomas’ beloved play 𝑪𝒉𝒂𝒓𝒍𝒆𝒚’𝒔 𝑨𝒖𝒏𝒕.   Although the audience saw it in black and white, its true color was revealed the following year when it graced Rita Hayworth as Sally Elliott in the 1942 film 𝑴𝒚 𝑮𝒂𝒍 𝑺𝒂𝒍.   Learn more about this beautiful dress at: Bit.ly/VicEd323

Thanks to all who came to last night's #1930s #PreCode STYLE OF SIN event celebrating the great #KayFrancis! I appreciate all the kind words and compliments I've received. A good time was had by all. In her honor and to show her ongoing influence, I wore a plunging @laundrybyshelli gown from the #2000s. Just like many of Kay's gowns, it is revealing - dipping to the waist - in both the front and back. Birthday star Kay Francis in glittering costume for the 1930 film BEHIND THE MAKEUP. Francis was born in Oklahoma City on January 13th in 1905. After a brief period on Broadway in the late 1920s, she moved to film and achieved her greatest success between 1930 and 1936, when she was the number one female star at the Warner Brothers studio. Francis frequently played long-suffering heroines and she had major hits with "Girls About Town" (1931) "The False Madonna" (1932), "Trouble in Paradise" (1932), "I Found Stella Parrish" (1935), "Confession" (1937) and "Secrets of an Actress" (1938). In 1966, Kay was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent a mastectomy, but the cancer had spread and proved fatal. Having no living immediate family members, she left more than $1,000,000 to The Seeing Eye, which trains guide dogs for the blind. She died in 1968, aged 63. This necklace, likely designed by Joseff of Hollywood was worn by Kay Francis as Peggy Martin Van Tyle in the 1933 film 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑯𝒐𝒖𝒔𝒆 𝒐𝒏 𝟓𝟔𝒕𝒉 𝑺𝒕𝒓𝒆𝒆𝒕.   In 1935 the necklace was worn by none other than Bette Davis as Marie Roark in 𝑩𝒐𝒓𝒅𝒆𝒓𝒕𝒐𝒘𝒏.   In 1937 it was seen around the neck of Rosemary Lane as Virginia Stanton in 𝑯𝒐𝒍𝒍𝒚𝒘𝒐𝒐𝒅 𝑯𝒐𝒕𝒆𝒍.   Learn more about Joseff of Hollywood on our website! This gown was seen twice in 1932. It likely originated with Kay Francis as Natalie “Nat” Upton in 𝑺𝒕𝒓𝒆𝒆𝒕 𝒐𝒇 𝑾𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒏, which was released just a few short months before 𝑪𝒓𝒐𝒐𝒏𝒆𝒓, where it was worn by Claire Dodd as Mrs. Constance Brown.   Find out who designed it at Bit.ly/PostEd235
