Katherine and Stacey sat at the coffee table in their living room, flipping through their dad's old magazines. Most of them were science journals, National Geographics, and Wireds, but a few were less scientific. Katherine pulled out the journal her dad kept, slowly paging through the detailed drawings and scribbled sentences on his genetic engineering work and on the weird things he found—

A loud boom racked the town as something broke through the atmosphere. "What was that?" Stacey said, putting down the magazine she had buried her face in. Katherine sighed, silently getting up from her seat to look out the window. Whatever had caused that sonic boom had banked left, slowed down, and was in the process of landing just up the road.

If y’haven’t heard about our town, good luck finding it. Somewhere in New Mexico. You probably won’t find it, considering you can’t even see the town if you looked hard enough, even from just outside. The town’s weird like that.
