hii, I'm kinda new to the fandom and there things i don't understand much about yb/xz relationship. i know xz had a lot of backlash about fandom drama, but beside that, anything happened between them? and if not, do you know where i can read about it?
Hi lovely! Welcome to the fandom, and also, I’m so sorry for this taking so long.
I honestly don’t know where to start haha, I think I’ll just give a brief (if that’s possible) overview, and then refer you to the more knowledgable on the subject.
Putting this under a cut to spare people’s dash
Yes there is speculation about Wang Yibo and Xiao Zhan being in a relationship. The backlash Xiao Zhan experienced was indeed due to this, more specifically, an AO3 fic written about them. A link to this fic got shared to Weibo. A number of XZ’s fans reported the site, and got AO3 banned in China, which lead to a large number of AO3 users to boycott XZ endorsed products (this is a simplified version because this post could become crazily long otherwise). This was a big deal because it could have potentially got XZ’s other projects blacklisted and him being replaced by other celebs for his product endorsements, and there was speculation that this did happen at one point.
In terms of anything happening between them, oh boy are you in for a wild ride if you choose to start digging deeper. Just to make it clear, if they are a couple, they are in no position to outright confirm it, even if they wanted to. Not without potentially jepordising their careers, not without jepordising being able to do the things they love to do, acting, singing, e.t.c.
The evidence as to why people believe them to be a couple - there is too much to list here but I will share some links further down. It mostly consists of: Behaviour when they’re around each other - from The Untamed behind the scenes footage (not realising how popular it would become at the time and let’s just say their guard was down a bunch of times), interview behaviour and answers, social media posts (and kadian - numbers that sound the same or similar to words in chinese, so you can translate things like timestamps - you will want to look into it more if you’re going to go digging), clothing and accessory choices, song lyrics...
It would be fair to say that at this point; ANY and EVERY tiny little thing any of them do is now analysed to hell and back for any clues that they might be together.
Most of this stuff at first glance does seem like *insert pepe silvia meme here*, and I’ll agree I think a bunch of it probably is. I don’t believe that literally every single waking moment and action they make contains some hidden declaration of love for one another. BUT, there are a handful of these that are very compelling, and do make me believe it’s true.
I’m not gonna detail them here, I would rather people look at the evidence themselves if they’re interested and come to their own conclusions. Fuck knows it can get nasty out there. I’ve seen some interactions where people try and push their own theories and beliefs on others as 100% stone cold truth, and every time it quickly descends into a shit-slinging match (luckily not here, but this is why I will not use twitter lol). And this is why I won’t rb abything that states “this definitely = that”, but will happily rb them making heart eyes at each other e.t.c. I will keep my belief that they’re a couple, and just keep in my mind there is a chance that I could be totally wrong haha.

hii, i was wondering if you could help me to undestand what happened between xz and wy? I'm just new to the fandom and i saw they don't showep up together? like last night they were on the opposite side of the stage and stealing glances at each other.... it's bc what happened to xz? i understand if you don't feel like talking about it but google doesn't helped me much lol

Nothing really happened between the two of them per say, but XZ was sadly caught in some big controversies earlier this year which I believe stemmed from a real person fanfic on AO3 (AO3 is banned in China). From my understanding the Chinese fanbases for both XZ and WY can be on the extreme side, and because the fanfic involved their likeness, there became a big dispute over it. XZ fans were mad that it ‘tarnished his image’, while those that didn’t like him blamed XZ and claimed he should take personal responsibility for the actions of his fans.
The fandom had sort of been at a boiling point but things just seemed to explode, and XZ lost a lot of company sponsorships through it as people were also boycotting from buying from some of the companies he worked with (Estée Lauder, Cartier, Piaget). He made an apology video (even though he wasn’t ever really at any fault?), but as more and more things unraveled he became quieter and quieter in the public eye for a long while, and public appearances with WY stopped completely. I do believe WY came out to his defence at some point in regards to how members of his own fanbase were treating XZ, but I’m not as informed as others are on tumblr to give an answer on to if that’s accurate or not.

Xiao Zhan’s fame skyrocketed after the Untamed, but unfortunately it brought a lot of the ugly and nasty side out of both fandom and corporate. It’s only very recently we’ve started seeing more of him again, and last nights award show was the very first time we’ve seen XZ and WY at the same event together in any capacity for a long while. In all honesty, I’m surprised we even got to see them on the same stage at the same time. I’m happy for it, because no one deserves to go through what XZ has in the past year, and I just hope it’s a step forward in being able to see more them at future events or even a possibility for them to work together in future projects.

When Dean suddenly kisses Cas in one of the bunker doorways on December 12th, eager and sweet, Cas is equal parts surprised and delighted. “What was that for?”
“I need an excuse now?” Dean asks with playful incredulousness. Still, before Cas can answer, he points upwards. “Mistletoe.”
“Oh,” is all Castiel says. They part ways for the time being and Dean doesn’t think much more on the little holiday tradition.
The next day, in a different hall, Dean is ambushed by a kiss in a suspiciously familiar way. “Mistletoe,” Cas says before he walks away, clearly pleased with himself. Dean shakes his head and laughs, glad to see the guy in such a good mood.
After three days, though, things are getting a little ridiculous. Every doorway in the bunker has a string of mistletoe over it and, knowing Cas, Dean’s fairly sure this is only the beginning.
He does call shenanigans on the one over the bathroom, though. God only knows how long Cas had been waiting to ambush him there.
A week later, Dean has been kissed in every hall the bunker has and his lips have been rubbed a seemingly permanent shade of rose. “I’m gonna need you to work out a closer shave if you’re gonna keep this up,” he tells Cas, but it’s all swallowed up by a long, lazy kiss against the kitchen doorway.
A couple days later, it’s Christmas eve and there’s a surprise waiting in the bedroom Dean shares with Cas.
“Holy shit,” Dean says on a breath. The ceiling of their bedroom is freaking covered in mistletoe, bunches upon bunches of the plant taped on just about every inch of it.
He’s so struck by the sight that he’s honestly caught off guard when Castiel sneaks up on him, hands interlacing sweetly with Dean’s as he kisses him for the umpteenth time.
“Mistletoe,” Cas says warmly against Dean’s lips. Dean can hear the smile in his voice, feel the warmth of his love crackling between their palms, an absent reminder of the enormity of this endless, wonderful being Dean has fallen in love with. “I expect a kiss for each one.”
Dean laughs, cheeks flushed and stomach fluttering in the wake of his sheer adoration. “Merry Christmas, Cas.”
And to all a very good night.
