Good news, ladies and gents, everyone in between and outside of!
My muse is finally coming back for Drapetomania!
Expect a new chapter soon. Special thanks to @nialoke @not-poignant and @sweetillusionketz for listening to me whine and encouraging me along the way <3
Anxiety attacks aren't the best when you gotta work and when anxiety redefines what's a 'crowded space' for you, it's just swell. I'm rereading a story I know and I like to keep distracted when travelling on a train. It works relatively ok.
The super crowded press conference room today didn't help matters. They didn't have internet and enough sockets for me to work there so I basically run home. Mind you, that's a 1h train ride into another country.
I'm lucky that my boss never scolds me when I don't do things the best way. He just says what to do next time.
I watched a movie for distraction and did my nails to ground myself. Worked ok-ish.
@nialoke caught up on Drapetomania and live commented it through skype, which was fun. The best part for me was when Nia started going “Oh no” all the time XD
I decided to give Jack more room to deal with his feelings and channel my own anxiety through this, so far it works pretty ok and I've added another couple words to the story. YAY!
Apparently I was waiting for an anxiety attack to continue writing Drapetomania. It’s exactly the feelings Jack will have to deal with so this is just perfect.

15. shooting star – JackFrost/Pitch Black, RotG
You pick the worst/best prompts, do you know that? Some peoplesend me an idea and I know exactly what will happen. You send me anidea and I could write 4 separate stories that would all fit.
There's a reason, you're one of my muses <3
I'll be posting the second prompt separately tomorrow.
Post-movie, borrowing from the book!verse. Pre-relationship.Jackand Pitch meet on a rooftop.
“What are you looking at?” Jack asked. He has been eyeingPitch on the roof for a long while, but Pitch stared only into thesky.
“The stars,” Pitch replies as if that was the most naturalthing to do.
“You don't plan on scaring the children in this house, do you?”Jack came closer, lifting his staff. He didn't want to fight Pitch, but it was better to be on the safe side, especially when facing theNightmare King himself.
“House...?” Pitch seemed baffled by the question as if hewasn't aware where he was. His eyes didn't leave the sky for onesecond to look at Jack. Either Pitch was sure that Jack didn't pose athreat or he didn't care.
“You are standing on the roof of a house. You've been here forat least half an hour. The house's been here for much longer.” Jackdidn't understand, “It didn't just manifest underneath you.”
“Oh.” Pitch said as if that was all the answer he needed togive.
“Oh?” Jack cocked his head. He didn't want to let his guarddown. Not again.
“I'm standing on a house. I didn't realise. I just-” Pitch cutoff, forgetting to explain more.
“Why are you even looking at the stars? They won't change foryou,” Jack decided to come even closer, the staff held in front ofhim. He didn't want to repeat the fiasco from Antarctica.
“You don't know how right you are.” Pitch managed to soundsad.
“If you think, I'll let my guard down, just because you don'ttalk to me, you are wrong.” This made Pitch slowly turn towardsJack and lower his eyes. His face however stayed tilted upwards andas soon as he gave Jack a once over, his gaze returned to the stars.
“I didn't realise you don't hear it. A shooting star isapproaching. Shooting stars listen to the dreams and wishes ofchildren and answer them. Even if I tried, I couldn't do anythingnow.”
“So,” Jack mulled it over in his head, “You're waiting forthe shooting star to fly over?”
“No, Jack,” Pitch shook his head. “I'm listening to theshooting star, because it whispers to me.”
“What does it whisper to you?”
“About my dead daughter.” There was a single tear on Pitch'sface and a deep sadness in his voice. Jack decided to let the mangrieve in peace. He flew away. Their brawl could wait for anotherday.
I wrote a thing yesterday, this one was for bullen week. People liked it. They liked the police uniform I referenced <3
I got like three comments! *_* And everyone who commented, mentioned the uniform. This made me so happy!!
Also I randomly went to Vienna for work. It’s nice meting the family, even though we were camping inside this time. I’ll take the cold drafty hallway in front of the elevators any time. Compared to chilling outside a hotel at this time of the year, that hallway was luxurious.
I had a long phone call with mum and I think I managed to get through. I got thumbs up from SO who heard only me talking and tried to be as supportive as possible. Mum's reaction showed that repeating something three times in different phrases and using words as close to what she'd say is the way to get through to her. We didn't part on bad terms, I think we're slowly getting somewhere. We more or less agreed to meet for tea some time.
I scanned all my inktobers today <3
And I finished the next chapter of D. I had to write another 1k and edit. Well, for my usual amount of editing, this was a lot, but it works so much better and I salvaged most of the text by cutting the short scene and fitting the info elsewhere. I'm very pleased with this chapter. I worked all through my slow build towards this super evil plot twist. I made myself sick reading it, so I feel like I'm hitting the right buttons with it.
Now it's 4am. Oops. But I'm very happy I got stuff done.
I’m a bit late for the event because life happened. Here’s my ficlet for the Blackice Costume Party. It’s set in the Drapetomania Universe. All you need to know to read this is that Jack is hanging out with his 13y/o kid sister Sophia and EJ Pitchiner long before he meets Koz Pitchiner. The ficlet is them meeting up for Halloween.
It was Halloween, one of Jack's favourite holidays. It was an excuse to dress up and play pranks and most importantly - nobody bat an eye at him for hanging out with the kids.
He was going trick and treating with his sister Soph and EJ. They all agreed to not tell each other what their costumes will be. Jack was immensely proud of his costume. He was dressed all in black with pale face paint. His shirt had a painting of a matching face done in fluorescent white-green paint that no one was going to see because it was too cold.
“Soph, are you ready?” he shouted in the direction of his sister's room.
“Be there in a minute,” she answered sounding muffled, as if she was putting on something that got stuck around her head. Jack chuckled a little at the idea.
“You sure you don't need my help?”
“Pretty sure,” came a triumphant reply. Soph was standing next to Jack, dressed in a white dress adorned with lace and possibly embroidery that made Jack think of frosted windows.
“Is that an icicle crown, your Highness?” he said pointing at her head.
Soph just nodded sheepishly. “It is. And what are you supposed to be?” She gave him scrutinizing glance from bottom to the top.
Jack grabbed his orange helmet and put it on. “A Jack-and-lantern. What else?” The pale face paint illuminated the holes in the helmet somehow creating an illusion of fire.
Soph's groan at this horrible pun brought Jack immense satisfaction. He's been toying with this costume idea for ages and decided to run with it this year, partly because he didn't have any alternative ideas.
“My queen, please do put on your jacket and let's go.” The dress was pretty but didn't look warm enough for the weather. Jack reached for Soph's jacket to help her put it on but Soph stopped him.
“I have a white fluffy cape to go with the dress. Also, king not queen.”
Jack just raised an eyebrow at <i>king</i> but didn't ask if kings wore dresses. Historically speaking they probably did. Dresses and tights. The cape looked warm enough to satisfy his protective side. He offered Soph a smile and a hand, “Shall we go, my Highness?”
Soph took his hand with a royal nod, “We shall.”
The next stop was EJ's house. By now Jack was familiar with the way to the Pitchiners house. They didn't stop at any other houses, so it took them half an hour walking before they reached it and rang the doorbell.
“Coming!” they heard EJ's voice from inside. Soon enough she opened the door, already wearing her costume – an all black outfit, her leather jacket and a huge flower crown on her head. There were several long ribbons hanging off the flower crown. Jack was staring at the costume trying to guess what it was supposed to be. He had trouble concentrating over the uncharacteristic colours adoring EJ's being. The ribbons reached up to her knees and swirled around EJ with every move.
Jack's musings ended with Soph ecstatically screeching "The Spring Queen!!" as she laid eyes on EJ, whose replying enthusiasm was evident too: "You're the Ice King?!"
The two grabbed hands and started jumping around each other.
"Would someone explain please?" Jack shoot his head in disbelief.
Koz's voice sounded from inside the house, "Apparently it's some sort of comic the girls read?"
"Webcomic!" Both girls exclaimed in unison.
"Why didn't you tell me about this earlier?" Jack thought he knew what was 'hip' with his sister's friends, but he was obviously left in the dark about this story. "What's this <i>web</i>comic about?"
Both giggled, "<i>Frosted Nature</i> is not really your cup of tea."
Jack was startled but somehow happy that the girls had a secret they share. Koz's voice came closer, "I got the same reply. I don't know what to make off it.
"
Jack wasn't ready to see Koz, who was wearing a smoking, what appeared to be a dark bedsheet over his shoulders, pinned at the front with a brooch and a mask covering half his face. He was not looking bad, but his lack of enthusiasm at wearing the costume made Jack suppress a laughter.
“Are you coming with us?” was all he could muster up. It wasn't planned. The original idea was Jack and the girls but Jack wasn't going to object to Koz's presence.
“You children need a chaperon,” Koz tried to muster up his best parent voice, but failed. Apparently he was looking forward to the trick or treating. Koz went for the forced parent look, the parent who didn't try much with his costume. The mask hid his eyes, but now Jack was sure there was an extra spark to them today.
“Phantom of the Opera, really? Just don't sing, please.” Jack held up his hands to stop Koz from starting any song from the musical.
All of them started to laugh as EJ muttered in a deep voice, “Sing my angel, sing for me.”
