AWWWWWWW
Kazuma has a beautiful laugh. <3
I love that he full-names Ryunosuke here. I know he does it earlier as a wrong answer response, but I'm pretty sure not much or at all in the courtroom otherwise? Certainly both there and here, it appears to be an expression of their close relationship. It's calling on their past while offering approval (or the opposite) based on that shared history.
Ryunosuke responds in kind! But even more so. A few minutes ago he made a kind of pointed "Prosecutor Asogi" comment, but here he drops all the way back to first name. Of course, I'm pretty sure he doesn't actually do so in the original Japanese, but there must be a similar drop in formality and expression of familiarity here. It's great.
Kazuma is so proud of him! This is exactly what he wants, this is why he was trying so hard to get Ryunosuke to be the defense! He knows that he can trust in his integrity completely, and thus by arguing back and forth with him, they will be able to work together to fully reveal the entire truth. Even if there are moments that are unpleasant for him or if his own assumptions are proven wrong, that's good in the long run because it serves his ultimate goal of bringing the truth into the light and righting the wrongs done by this justice system.
And even apart from that, he has pride in Ryunosuke personally. He is happy to see him doing so well, to see him live up to the potential Kazuma saw within him. He's laughing delightedly at it!
I don't think it is actually hostile. He wants his best friend, the person he cared for and trusted enough to bring along on this quest in the first place, to be his partner in ending it. He is recognizing the skills he's developed over the time that he has spent fulfilling Kazuma's dream on his behalf.
Also, he's holding up the sword that Ryunosuke returned to him. The one containing his soul, the one that guides him and compels him to slice evil in two. Sending a pretty significant message there!
He is admittedly being very challenging about it but then again this is like the fourth or fifth time he's hinted at wanting Ryunosuke to be opposing counsel without getting a yes back, haha.
HERE WE GOOOOO
I love the acknowledgement of Ryunosuke. BUT TALK TO SUSATO PROPERLY ALREADY.
The symbolism of Kazuma lacking his soul along with his memories. The symbolism of it residing with Ryunosuke instead, as he grew into his new role as a defence attorney. The implications of Kazuma immediately taking it back. The things said and unsaid.
And speaking of things unsaid, the DRAMA of this. Classic Kazuma I guess but what the hell man, get back here and talk to us.
(also poor Susato, she looks ready to cry. She's the first one to have said your name to you Kazuma, she recognized your father's face, she was originally coming here to help you, why are you not properly acknowledging her??? talk to her too!!!)
What. Were. You. Up. To. Kazuma?!
....also, the background for this conversation being their room on the ship implies, hilariously, that Ryunosuke agreed to be smuggled illegally across the world in a suitcase before this conversation. Like, was it just:
Kazuma: "Wanna come to England with me?"
Ryunosuke: "Sure, why not?"
...and only after he's (1) left school (2) left his country with no prospects for employment or any safe guarantee home (3) hid in a suitcase (4) survived off Kazuma's dinner scraps (5) gotten locked in a closet to sleep at night... did he stop to think. This is a little odd.
