Attack for @kbthebearcat of her character Reese, along with my character Cricket! This is actually an interaction I've been wanting to draw with these two for a while now, and I guess Art Fight gave me the confidence I needed haha. Reese and Cricket end up bonding over braiding hair despite the rough start to their relationship c:

I wasn't originally going to post this, but I had a lot of fun writing it so I figured why not c:

A while back @kbthebearcat and I created an Iron Giant AU for our story featuring Cricket and Donald, and at the start of this year I was inspired to write a piece that explored their first official meeting. The AU has many similarities to the source material but we've really made it our own as well, which was the main motivation behind this written piece. I tried not to worry too much about the quality and just focused on having fun so don't expect anything life changing! Thank you for reading and I hope you enjoy ^^

Encounter with the Unknown

Some helpful context:

Unlike the original movie, this AU takes place in the 80's-90's

Cricket is a young girl who lives with her abusive uncle in a house not dissimilar to Hogarth's in the movie; it's separated from main roads and borders a thick forest

Cricket's parents died in a car accident a few years back, which is why she currently lives with her uncle

Cricket's real name in this AU is Charlotte but she prefers the nickname Cricket because it's something her late parents used to call her

I've been wanting to draw this for a very long time and finally managed something decent! Inspired by the incredible photo below the cut, Donald takes a sip of hot cocoa while Cricket sneaks a bite of bagel from within Donald's coat. For these two, sharing treats in public often means being subtle about it, but it seems they've figured out a good system!

My pal @kbthebearcat and I have been playing around with (and ultimately developed brainrot for) an Iron Giant AU featuring the kids from our ongoing RP, so I ended up sketching what Cricket might look like as a human since she'd essentially be filling the role of Hogarth. I also designed a couple extra outfits for fun, specifically based on my ideas for human Cricket's favorite outdoor interests and activities!

Cricket has something called acro-facial vitiligo, which is a pattern of vitiligo where skin cells on the face, hands, and feet lose pigment (as well as the knees, elbows, or armpits in certain cases). It's supposed to serve as a visual equivalent for the dark patches of fur found in her canon rat design. I always enjoy trying to preserve some aspects of the canon character when creating things like this ^^

Caring for a tiny rat child comes with many unexpected challenges...especially if she has a tendency to sneak up on you by accident.

I decided to make a simple animatic featuring Cricket and @kbthebearcat's Donald, since we both got a kick out of this idea! Cricket certainly learns to make her presence known after this little incident, haha.
