Okay this is kinda long because of all the back-and-forth, so transcript of the question about The Winchesters' trailer below the cut, and a timestamped link for anyone who wants to watch the accompanying incredulous and baffled facial expressions for themselves here [X].
Fan: I have a question for Jensen, actually.
Jensen: Okay. Found him.
Fan: Yes, in The Winchesters trailer, at the one minute eight second mark [baffled expressions from J2] we all -
Jared: Walk us through that! [laughing]
Fan: We all noticed at the one minute eight second mark that the exact clip of Castiel's barn entrance was included. Um, why was this included and what other comments do you have about it?
Jared: One minute eight seconds, dude, you know... [laughing]
Jensen: [still baffled] What?
Fan: You did it!
Jensen: *I* did it?
Fan: I'm askin' you. So there at the one minute eight second mark, his barn entrance is there, where he, you know -
Jensen: The Lazarus Rising barn entrance?
Fan: Yes, it's there.
Jensen: Uh huh.
Fan: Uh huh!
Jensen: Is there any other clips from the mothership in that teaser?
Fan: That's the only one I'm focused on, so.
Jensen: No no no, I'm answering your question by posing another one, were there any other clips of Supernatural in that teaser?
Fan: Oh! No.
Jensen: That was the only one?
Fan: Yes.
Jensen: So here's the problem. There's about four or five of those sizzle reels that they've cooked up. And they play - I've seen a few of 'em? I don't remember exactly which one you're talking about, or why that would have been in there? Unless it was just - unless it was usage of a particular [still clearly baffled]- I'm trying to think of why that would have been in there.
Yelling Fan: Easter egg!
Jensen: Maybe an Easter egg, yeah? I'll have to go look at it, 'cause I don't know.
Jared: Why did you wait sixty-seven plus seconds to put it in?
Jensen: [fake yelling] I'm not an editor! I didn't put the thing together! [Jared laughing] Um, if I would have, I'd have an answer for you! All I know is I watched it and I was like, 'Oh that looks cool, I'd watch that.' That's all they were looking for me to say. I didn't go, 'Question, Editor Guy, at the one minute eight second mark, you decided to throw in a clip from Lazarus Rising, WHY?'
Jared: Uh, real salt? Jensen and I and Misha, we had a funny experience in May. Because you know Jensen and I specifically had been doing the season one Upfronts for Supernatural in '05, I suppose? And we were the young guys on the network, and then we show up to the Upfronts in May a few months back and we're like the old guys with kids. We're like, 'My God!' Everybody's coming up and like, 'Oh, thank you, sir, for all your work! Do you need a chair?' Like, huh?
Jensen: And I did.
Jared: And they showed prequels for Winchesters and Walker: Independence and when, like, WI had a trailer, he looked over and was like, 'Dude, that came together great! Like, great ad!' And I was like, 'I guess!' - I had never seen it. And same with TW, when TW trailer or premiere or whatever played, I was like, 'Man, that's badass!' and he was like, 'First time I've seen it!' [Jensen nods] We'd do our work and then somebody who does that for a living kind of puts together in a fancy way. It's like, 'Sweet! Alright!'
Jensen: And there was a whole - so our editors were putting together - TW editors were putting together, you know they're busy putting together the first episode, and the second episode, the third episode. This is a studio's separate, higher editors. They take a bunch of footage and then they cook up this, what's called a sizzle reel. So - and then it goes to WB's marketing and publicity team, and they look at it. And then they send it over to the producers for just like a, you know, 'Okay, this is, how about this?' And we just generally give a thumbs up. Like, 'Yeah, that looks awesome, I'd watch that.' So that's - without getting into the weeds of the what and the why? I can't really answer that question but now you've peaked my interest, so I'm gonna go back and take a look at it and I'm gonna ask, 'Hey, did you just ... run out of footage? Or did you just, like, was that for some particular rea- Yeah, I dunno, to answer your question. I don't know. Thank you.
