In 2009, I had just graduated from college and escaped the depths of the Great Recession by studying abroad for a year in Kyoto. It was one of the best years of my life and the start of lifelong friendships, including @hironokyoto ~ Nine years later and we’re still close, even though our friendship spans continents and we only get to meet every few years for a few hours.
