Kemetic Deity Exchange 2017!

I’m doing it a little bit early because I’ll be near my shrine on the 29th.

I was asked to do a ritual for Sekhmet by @phoenixoftheparadise They asked for an offering of dragon’s blood incense, hibiscus tea and something red.

I remade my altar so that Sekhmet would be taking centre stage, with a carnelian pyramid to the left and a red/orange jasper sphere to the right. Behind her is a dragon’s blood joss stick.

In the front we have a offering bowl of hibiscus tea and another bowl of dried hibiscus flowers that weren’t made into tea and will go into ‘temple storage’. In the centre is the Strength card from the World Spirit deck that I strongly associate with Sekhmet.

I didn’t have anything appropriate that was red, so I missed that out - unless the hibiscus tea counts!

Kde2k17: Bast

Offerings: Graham Crackers and Milk (not in photos), Incense, Hibiscus Water.

The Action: @theheartroad assigned me a game to play with bast, which consists of hiding blue irises (hidden or drawn) around your room/house. I drew 4 petals and 1 full flower. I hid the petals in my room and the flower in the living room under the box containing the ashes of my deceased cat, and then proceeded to ask Bast to bless her and protect her in the afterlife. Once it was my turn to find the flower and petals, I proceeded to hunt them down. The first petal was under my Bast statue, the second was in a book with the line "human law is different from Spiritual Law" or something of the sort, the third was in my book of shadows. After being unable to find the fourth petal, I retrieved the flower. Using my pendulum to communicate with Bast, I asked her if she hid the fourth petal for me to find at a later date when I most need it, to which she answered yes.

The Experience: overall, this was a bonding experience as well as a learning one. Bast taught me that it's ok to go against a set order, and that it's ok to do things differently and out of order, as long as it works best for you.

Kemetic Deity Exchange: A Moment With Ra

Forgive me if I’m not making any sense. For some reason I’ve been pretty exhausted all day so I may word things strangely. For the Kemetic Deity Exchange, I got Ra from @arachnospooky. I was pretty excited because I’m always happy to give Ra a little offering here and there. I have a very familial relationship with the Netjeru, often considering my Gods to be somewhat like parental or aunt/uncle-like figures. (A good example of this is Mafdet being like a lovably crazy vodka aunt and Anpu being a father figure) And for me, Ra is like a grandfather of sorts. Maybe it’s related to his role as the Father of the Gods, I’m not sure. Either way, that’s the vibe I get from him. A caring, outgoing granddad. I don’t know if this makes much sense... I’m rambling, lemme just carry on, lol. @arachnospooky wanted me to offer a devotional activity to Ra, and suggested some things like watching the sunrise, making sun puns or looking into how the sun affects my area. (Wanna know how the sun affects my region? It doesn’t. I live in Ireland. It’s always raining. I think it’s a little shady, but...) I did manage to catch a glimpse of the sunrise a few days ago when I went out to greet Ra, though!

Apologies that it’s a little blurry. Isn’t it lovely, though? I went outside then and said hello as He rose. It was rainy and windy today, and I decided to pour a ritual bath, and while it was pouring, a little bit of sunlight peeked through for a moment, so I like to thin He was there. Now, I don’t have a statue of Ra, but I do have a gold necklace of a falcon which I wear and dedicate to him. So, to make up for a lack of an idol, I wore the necklace today and put on make up as an offering with blue eyeshadow to represent the blue skies when the Sun shines, with green shadow under my eyes because I’m nerdy and wanted to represent photosynthesis occuring with solar radiation to represent the green grass on sunny days. I then prepared some offerings, lit some Frankincense & Myrrh incense, and set up the gifts:

My shrine with offerings for Ra. (I invited the other Netjeru to share as well, since I left the offerings by their statues. Also, those of you who are wondering where my Bast statue is, she has her own place now for a while!) Rooibos tea, an orange, toffee, raspberry and orange chocolates, a bit of polish halva, a shot of orange juice and a Pepsi with Amaretto. I prayed a little bit, then I played some hymns and sat at my shrine researching the Sun. (I’m a bit of an amateur astrophysicist[note: Unlike the Sun, I have 0 degrees and it is merely a hobby] so this was exciting because I got to nerd out while spending some time with Ra) I had just filled up my personal astronomy research diary recently so I decided that my new one should start off with a page of random facts about the Sun. I filled the first page up with what I knew and with some things which I will want to research in more depth in the future. So, I’m super thankful that Ra had motivated me to start filling yet another empty journal. It allows me to further see the Sun in a new light.

It was, overall, a nice day spent reflecting with Ra, Father of the Gods, and I hope He’s pleased with His offerings and my research. To end the day, before sleep, I will do a small nighttime exercise routine which I call my sunset routine. I hope this is more or less what you had in mind @arachnospooky, and thank you to @anaputuwet for organising this and to both of you for motivating me to get up off my lazy spoonie ass and actually do some proper devotional stuff. It was fun and I really enjoyed it and was left feeling positive. Best wishes to y’all for 2018. ♥

Oh geez this post is late. My Bad™ For this year's Kemetic Deity Exchange I had the opportunity to introduce myself to Osiris for the first time! @heofspeckledplumage suggested that I offer him blue/green colored items and share a meal or book with him. Since I'm home for the holidays, my shrine items/icons are back at school, so I did my best to improvise a little shrine. In the middle I painted an "icon"/offering with watercolors and on it I wrote a little devotional poem to Osiris I found here on the tumblr.com as well as his name glyphs! I also offered him some teal knit socks. This is kind of a weird offering but my thought process was along the lines of me viewing Osiris as a grounding deity, and socks also relating to that? Idk idk but he seemed to like them. I also offered him some water and spent some time at my shrine reading a chapter from my current book with him. I'll admit that I was nervous about interacting with Osiris, I think because I've always thought of him as a bit serious and intimidating. But my experience was amazing and so positive! I felt an overwhelming sense of calmness and grounding, and I feel like he appreciated my effort and my offerings! Thanks you so much @anaputuwet for organizing this exchange!!

KDE2017

I have been extremely busy with the holidays, so I can now finally do this!! The deity I was given was Hathor, by @starsandepithets !! For Her, I am enjoying the quiet of New Year’s Eve, by reading my favorite book (The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender) and tonight watching fireworks from the coziness of my bedroom!! I apologize for this being so late, thank you so much for this!! Hathor seems absolutely wonderful.

Kemetic Deity Exchange 2017 - Khepri

This year I got a request for Khepri from @lavenderbiscuits and the request is to offer him breakfast food.

I was thinking whether to give him local (Indonesian) breakfast food, or a general western breakfast food such as toast and sandwich. But because this is quite an occasion I decided to serve him Indonesian food to make it more unique.

This was a Chicken Congee (or Chicken Porridge), and it’s a favorite breakfast menu in my country. It’s a rice congee with shredded chicken meat such as chopped scallion, celery, tongcay (preserved salted vegetables), fried soybean, Chinese crullers (youtiao, known as cakwe in Indonesia), and both salty and sweet soy sauce, and sometimes topped with yellow chicken broth and crackers. You can read more about it here. It’s one of my favorites as well, it’s very delicious. 

I’m also serving another menu which is Chicken satay with honey sauce, as you know the gods like honey, so I thought why not?

I hope Khepri enjoyed his breakfast and I’m looking forward to more KDE events in the future! @anaputuwet
