we are in uncharted waters here as a global community. The spread of COVID-19 and measures to contain the outbreak seem like something out of a science fiction novel, but this is reality and it affects all of us.
One of my daughters’ teachers sent a message to his students to recommend that they keep a diary/journal as we go through this time.
I encourage everyone to do the same. The best way for future generations to see how a crisis was dealt with, and to know how people were feeling, is to read accounts of first-hand experiences. Write how you are feeling. Write what is happening in your community/nation. Write what you are doing from day to day. God-willing, we will get through this and emerge stronger as a result. Just think of what future generations will think when they read all these accounts. You may find that writing it is also cathartic.
Another thing you can do, even if you are following the instructions of social distancing and taking precautions to remain virus-free - we are blessed to have online resources. Talk to people to limit your feelings of isolation. Reach out the hand of friendship and show kindness through your actions online.
If you are someone who spends time reading/viewing the hard work of fanfiction authors and illustrators, do something nice and leave them an encouraging note. Show kindness to everyone with whom you come in contact, even if only online. Kindness costs you nothing.
If you are a person of faith, pray.
And for goodness sake, put aside your petty differences, personal, political and otherwise. It isn’t all about you. It’s about all of us.
