I don't really understand all this 'Ai can't think for itself! AI can't understand beauty!' because yeah duh?
Are you under the impression that people think it can?
Look, the people doing ai 'art' and then claiming they did it themselves are the exact same kind of people who would steal others' work and put their name on it and the kind of people who would put the lowest amount of effort into things in general.
Ai isn't making it different. It's just changing form because they have a new tool.
Everyone knows AI can't appreciate beauty or make anything of real meaning? It's just a way to make 'stock photos' that can kind of give people an idea of what the thing should look like. Or in writing, it's just a thing giving you the 'what happened' without the prose behind it because that's supposed to be a YOU job.
The Computer is doing what it can to show you the structure of the thing you asked for. So that you can then know what it should look and sound and feel like. It's not making art because it is not conscious.
Now if it were true AI we might have a question. If it's conscious and can make decisions, can it understand beauty? That's a question.
But this is not true ai, they're llm's and the same old machines we used to use to 'blend' two pictures together to make celebrity babies, it's just more advanced now.
And still, just a tool.
The issue we are having is with what it 'eats' not what it produces. Please keep that in mind. Stop getting caught up in the question of whether it's real art or not, everyone KNOWS it isn't except for the idiots trying to claim they're artists for typing in words to a box and hitting a button. Okay?
The real problem is the company stealing books and images from writers and artists.
THAT. is the PROBLEM.
