12 16 and 19 with You Catch more Bees With Honey Bucky and Reader please

Hi Amber! Thank you for this ask! I think Bucky and his Honeybee are still very new in figuring out what they have, so this is something we will see a little in the future, but not too far off. It’s actually quite relevant to the next few chapters I have planned. I really enjoyed putting thought into this because their dynamic is pretty interesting.

12. Do they have a difficult time when separated from each other, or are they fairly independent?

Before they met, Bucky and Honeybee were insanely independent. They’re both very capable and I don’t think they had considered having someone permanent in their lives for a long time. As time goes on at the farm, though, I think they realize how much they like being around each other. I don’t want to spoil too much for the next chapters, but I will say, it’s a tough transition to go from being together 24/7 to essentially no contact besides business. And poor Curtis and Steve get the brunt of it. That could change tho🫣🤷🏻‍♀️

16. Would they ever get matching tattoos? If yes, what would these look like?

I think they’d consider getting complementary tattoos. For Bucky, he’d get it on his forehead if it made her happy, but I think Honeybee is about the subtleties. He’d probably get a small honeybee over his heart and she’d get a bucket on her side, covered mostly by her breast, out of sight for most people besides him. They’re nothing elaborate, not colorful, just packed with meaning and sentiment. Reminders of the other since they have to be far apart so often. Way, way down the line, if they got married, she’d consider getting his initials on her ring finger since jewelry isn’t a good idea around heavy farm equipment. He’d happily do the same.

19. Do they wear each other’s clothes/jewelry?

Um….yeah. 100%. We haven’t seen this yet besides Bucky wearing her uncle’s old hat, but that’s nowhere near where it goes. Bee loves wearing Bucky’s old henleys around the house, but she’s not much for his suits and things, so she’s a big proponent of him buying more “normal people clothes” because suits just don’t belong where she lives unless there’s a funeral. To make up for this though, she often wears one of Bucky’s rings on a necklace if they go out because it’s too big for her finger, but she wants something and he likes knowing a piece of him is on her at all times. Just like Decks, Bee has a few old college hoodies and shirts laying around that Bucky loves to steal and squeeze into. When Bee was in college, she got Curtis a sweatshirt to rep, but he hardly wears it. He keeps it around the house for particularly brisk mornings, but if he’s not careful, Bucky will take it and keep it on the whole day. Bucky will also wear some of Bee’s ball caps now and then if he has to go into town and his hair is a mess, or if he’s working out in the sun.

Kris! Thank you so much for sending this in! I’m elated to answer, and honestly, it’s something I hadn’t thought of before. This is longer than I anticipated (what else is new?) so answers below the cut:

From the Handiwork Series

23. What are the defining characteristics of their relationship?

I’d say one of the first ones is playfulness. From what we’ve seen so far already (which isn’t too much😬), they’re both very easygoing when around each other and love a good joke. As time goes on, I hope we see them rag on each other a little more as Cherry helps to bring Curtis out of his shell some. I also think, as we’ll see very soon, trust is HUGE and goes hand-in-hand with honesty. Right off the bat, Curtis is honest with her about what it takes to fix her truck, and doesn’t claim a bunch of other things like another mechanic probably would. And then Curtis wants to make sure she’s safe, going as far as requesting Edgar to walk her home and driving her home, himself. From the very beginning, she has no doubts on Curtis’s intentions, even asking for him to give her a ride with only feelings of safety and no hesitations from hardly knowing him yet.

38. Who’s got a quicker temper?

Hm, see, this is tricky because I think there are many layers to it. I think Cherry is one to be more outwardly vocal about her temper. If someone gets on her nerves or is especially awful, I don’t think she’ll be afraid to say it to their face, or even tell those around her, nearly unprompted. She’s gotta be tough and assertive in her job, so she’ll yell, pretty easily, if she has to. As for Curtis, we’ve seen a little bit of what his temper could look like, but not much. And now that I think about it, he’s pretty patient. He likes to gather all the facts before making a final judgement and acting. You can see he gets a little annoyed and closed off at first around Bucky, but then once he really gets to know him, they become good friends. Now, Curtis got into his fair share of fights in high school, but none of them really had to do with him. It was more of a ‘Cole started it, so I finished it to protect Jake’ sort of thing since Curtis had evaluated Cole as worth punching and Jake as worth protecting. That changed as time went on, though, so Curtis still doesn’t forgive Jake and therefore, both will experience a shorter temper from him, but still probably 70% of the patience he just naturally has.

Now if we’re talking about with each other, this is an entirely different beast. But…actually, is it? I think Cherry gains a patience with him she doesn’t have for the general public, and Curtis’s grows deeper, as well. The thing is, though, I think she also get scared to tell him when she’s upset about something, instead closing off and expecting him to decipher it. Curtis isn’t into the cryptic messages as much, so he struggles with that and begs for a conversation. And when he’s upset, I think he’ll come out and say it, not raising his voice if he can help it, but sometimes it can escalate beyond both of their control. This is on very rare occasions, though. So it may as well not happen.

But all of that yapping through my answer finally figuring out the dynamic to say: Cherry on 90% or more of occasions. 😅

Kris!! No worries!!! I’m so happy to answer these, but just keep in mind, they’ll happen far in the future once the two of them get through the many obstacles in their way (including themselves lol). This is WAY MORE long-winded than I had intended, so I hope it scratches that itch. I really do love writing for them, so ask as much as you want!!

12. Do they have a difficult time when separated from each other, or are they fairly independent?

Steve and Decks are both quite independent and business-oriented, so even when they’re together, their time can often seem scheduled. It’s not too difficult when they’re apart because neither one is particularly clingy, but in times of separation, they’re sure to schedule a call once every few days at least, if not, once a day. While they may try to be strict on that, it doesn’t keep them from not wanting to hang up the phone and saying “wait, one last thing before you go” to each other. But overall, they deal with it pretty well, or at least much better than Bucky and Bee. The only difference people see when they’re separated for a little is Steve starts to turn inward somewhat, giving terser responses and less warm gazes and conversations, and Decks becomes a little short-tempered, things bothering her quicker than they normally would for her already no-nonsense behavior.

14. Do they enjoy PDA, or are they more private with affection?

Do they enjoy PDA? Not really. They’re both quite private and appear proper to those around them. Sticklers for following rules and customs, and happy to keep that affection to themselves. The most you may see out in the open is hand holding or a forehead kiss, maybe a cheek kiss, but almost never lips. They’ll sit close and whisper jokes in each other’s ears, or roll their eyes at Buck and Bee, laughing quietly amongst themselves, but that’s pretty much it. Oh! And of course they enjoy a good dance😉

21. Do they enjoy domestic life?

Yeah, I’d say so. Decks and Steve already live pretty domestic lives on their own. They both have their own places, which comes with cleaning, cooking, maintenance, and bills. Steve has a cleaner employed, although he hardly uses them since he’s almost never home and can keep tidy on his own. He’s a big fan of meal prep and everything having a place. Due to his schedule, though, he tends to get home late, which often ends up in takeout food. Decks has no issue cleaning, but she’s honestly not the best cook. She can get by, and what she makes is edible, but it’s nothing like her parents can make and she’s just grateful she’s only cooking for herself in case her learning attempts fail. When she and Steve get together, she doesn’t want to be expected to cook for him. She knows how all those other mafia wives can be and she doesn’t want that expectation, and he doesn’t place it on her. She’s got her own life and doesn’t want to be subservient to a man. He wouldn’t have it any other way than an equal partnership. So Steve makes the effort to be home earlier, even if he has to leave again after to go back to work, just so he can spend dinner with her. She’s quite regimented on needing food in her mouth before 6pm, otherwise she’ll become an absolute troll, and not in the cute way. The two of them go to the bookstore and pick out and purchase a cookbook, finding recipes they want for the coming week so they can stock up on those groceries, and then learn to cook them together. When they’re not both called in to the weird demanding hours of their jobs, they lay on the couch, her cold toes tucked under his warm thigh, as they watch a show, and then after, she pulls up a YouTube video explaining the lore surrounding it. Side details: Decks also has a good deal of house plants, and as we’ll see in the next few chapters, loves a good pasta. Maybe one day the two of them will get a pet.
