"What was it like when you first came to Lucis?"
"Different, your highness. Like I didn’t belong here. Even now, after being here awhile, I still don’t really belong here. Especially at this Citadel, given my lower class. Lucis is not like my homeland much... but it was the only place left to go, after the Empire took Galahd. Me and Libertus ran a bar and restaurant there, was destroyed in the invasion. My mother stayed behind... may or may not still be alive. My sister... well. It was just me and Libertus really. We could have stayed behind on the islands and lived under Niflheim’s boot... or come here, and fight them. We chose what we chose. I'm sure you understand, after what was done to Tenebrae. It was the only decision for us, really. For all the difference it has made.”
Nyx’s low, calm voice returned to the Princess and Oracle in one, looking back her way with a faint, wistful smile. The young woman asked questions of him that very few ever did anymore, in this land. Here he was just another uniformed glaive who lived to serve, for most of the citizens to look down on, especially the higher classes like hers... save the King and the Crown Prince she was to be wed to. Despite the expectations placed on her... she seemed to keep coming around to speak to him, even when he wasn’t being her bodyguard, not caring if she was seen with him. He appreciated that more than he could say to her... but he could reciprocate in kind... it would be well worth a chewing out by the Captain if he found out he was spending nearly as much time interacting with the Princess as he was protecting her while she was in the city. She was different from most of the nobles and royals he’d seen and heard of... the way she carried herself... did not seem bound by all the expectations of her title. If anything, it was the Oracle title that stood out more with her... despite her regal manner and presence... and beauty. He knew full well he had recurring thoughts he shouldn’t be around her... and sometimes it was all he could do to try to disguise his interest. There was no future to be found between a woman of her standing and a man of his... he knew that. And she was to be the Prince’s anyways. Wants and desires did not get to factor into duty. It wasn’t easy to disguise, especially with how easy it was to lower his guard a bit around her... to trust her. To speak of matters he never had. After a pause of consideration, the Kingsglaive went on again thoughtfully, meeting Lunafreya’s blue, alluring gaze that looked his way.
"I’d like to return to Galahd one day... liberate it from the Empire. Find my mother. Reopen that bar and restaurant with Libertus. It’s a dream I have, anyways. I know the futility of false hope against a vast, only growing, tireless Empire. I’m in this war for the long haul, or at least for however long I continue to survive it. Don’t see that changing anytime soon. Whatever happens, it’s all out of my hands. Just another soldier in a war.”
