HE'S KEPT HIMSELF SAFE THIS ENTIRE TIME ⎯⎯ but his fingers curl silently around the fresh weapon anyways. he swallows the stubbornness in his throat before it can mutter out something stupid. they just needed to get out of this situation and everything would be fine. the infected would get left behind and both of them would live and the invisible red stain of blood on his hands wouldn't get any darker. noah was never one to work with someone. but if it managed to benefit them both . . . well, he couldn't be upset about it in the end.

𝐈𝐓 𝐀𝐋𝐋 𝐇𝐀𝐏𝐏𝐄𝐍𝐄𝐃 𝐈𝐍 𝐀 𝐁𝐋𝐔𝐑, 𝐒𝐎 𝐇𝐀𝐑𝐃 𝐓𝐎 𝐖𝐑𝐀𝐏 𝐇𝐄𝐑 mind around it. a blur of fighting limbs , of being knocked out , of nearly being killed. fire , david , screaming , blood , panic. the helplessness in her chest doesn’t leave even after she hails herself from the floor, after she follows ellie outside in the snow covered in smudges of black & blood both her own & not. her limbs hurt, an ache in her cheek & on her arm. it almost felt dream-like, otherworldly. another thing her mind has trouble understanding but most of all it was this: kari failed to protect ellie. failed to keep her from having to do something monstrous. failed from having to keep her from killing. palm rests flat against her stomach, eyes widen seeing ellie falling into joel’s arms. a sense of relief falls over the woman. ❛ ellie- . . i’m so sorry. i- . . oh god ! ❜ tears well up in her own eyes, head shaking as her husband rushes to her side after removing his jacket for ellie. hands reach out to clutch his shirt, chest tight. ❛ i didn’t protect her ! she-she coulda died & it wouldn’t been my fault ! ❜ kari exclaimed, ❛ he- . . he almost . . ❜

maybe standing outside in the dead of winter is a bad idea, but her head is racing with thoughts surrounding what happened that evening. the folks that saw it all happen now look at her differently for her reaction, & can she blame them for it ? she's always been an outsider, & now ? now things were worse.

she heard footsteps crunching on the frozen ground. a heavy sigh escaped as she raised her hands, ❛ listen, dina, i don't wanna ❜ her words were cut short as green eyes found the owner of the footsteps. slowly, she swallowed, her hands lower, but before she could say another word, he spoke, & this time, she listened.

there were moments sarah never believed would happen. all the infected eradicated , a once more peaceful life . . . seeing her dad again. not that the girl had given up hope for those days to come , but moreso , she stopped fixating on them. readied to live her life as it was in jackson alongside her uncle and aunt ; continuing the closest to peaceful existence one could find anymore anymore. and after twenty years of dreaming of the reunion , she had come to terms with it all. her dad was alive out there , somewhere ( he was a superhero in her eyes and superheros didn't die ) and that's all she could hope for.

but what sarah never imagined is what she witnessed before her own eyes. on horseback alongside the fellow daily patrols sat a man she would recognize no matter how many decades it had been. older , hair more gray . . . but she knew that grumpy scowl anywhere. ❛   dad ?!   ❜
