Sophomore Status

Sophomore Year So Far

So its week three of block one and for me that means I’ve already taken a mid-term, my final is on Friday and I have a 15-20 page paper due next Wednesday by noon. This block has been very interesting. I’m in Global Feminisms and so I’m exploring how women are affected by the patriarchy in different countries and how their society affects women’s movements and feminist movements. My paper is one Iranian women and the Iranian theocracy. I don’t know much about Iran or Islam so this will be an interesting topic for me to explore.

Block Three: Christian Foundations

Block Four: Intermediate French

Block Five: French Conversation and Composition

Block Six: Modern Europe and Its Critics

Block Seven: The Protestant Revolution

Block Eight: Enlightenment: 18th Century French Literature

To be honest block eight is scary and daunting! But I really need it if I want to get a French Minor. You also may notice that I’m taking religion courses, that’s because, surprise surprise, I decided last year to add a religion minor. So that brings me to double majoring in International Relations and Gender Studies and double minoring in French and Religion. 

I’m still taking piano and am also the vice president of Global Zero. I’m looking for more ways to get involved, nothing has really called to me yet, but am also just enjoying having time to breathe after working all summer. 

This year, I don’t have a roommate. So far I’m digging having a room all to myself, something I haven’t had since I was two. I’m able to spread out and have things just the way I like them. I even have wall to wall carpeting!

Block 5- International Politics

This block I'm taking International Politics since one of my majors is International Relations.And let me tell you, I have solved all of the world's problems. SOLAR PANELS. Just think about it for a while. They are the answer to everything. But I digress... 

This block I have a lot of reading to do so I've been very busy. However, I don't think that the way the teacher has the class set up is the most effective way to learn the material. She has us reading articles and excerpts from the greatest thinkers in international politics from Locke and Machiavelli to more contemporary authors, BEFORE she lectures about the topic. I think that it would be more beneficial for her to lecture first and then use the readings as supplements to helps us understand the topics.   She's very young and a PhD student, so she doesnt have much experience but still...

Next block I'm taking Virginia Woolf.

Block 4- Macroeconomics

So, I missed the beginning of block 4 due to a family emergency. Going into my second week of class, I am playing catch up. I've taken my two quizzes and got a 15/20 and an 18/20, which is not too shabby if I do say so myself. I have a test tomorrow, so that'll be interesting... I am not really a math minded person so its almost like the professor, who has been amazing and really understanding, is speaking another language. and let me tell you it isn't French. 

So we'll see how that goes but I really can't wait for the block to be over so I don't have to take another economics class. It is NOT for me. Also Christmas.
